avoiding the lorax on Crion

I regard fluff in a way as I did with lord of rings, there's at least one book devoted to the background, history, and how the entire current world vcame into shape including long dead kingdoms and age 1 in detail, maybe 2 books.

Now do I need all the ultra deep info no, is it nice the story has a solid backstory , yes.

Have I skimmed it and such to make my force make sense, yes as there a bit altered modified black templers with impirial "marines" who may or may not go screw codex arestes up to the nth degree....

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Hey guys, so I really enjoy 40k. But here is the thing, I don't care about fluff,I like playing.I also don't pain my own models but pay to have them painted. I like 40k for the gaming and atmosphere.

What is your opinion on this?

This is me 100%. I pay people to paint most of my stuff as I would rather hump a belt sander than paint. I also don't care at all about the fluff. I've not even read the stuff in my own books. When I convert them down to PDF. I cut everything out that isn't a rule. I play because I like the practice of list building, the math and attempting to defeat my foe. I also have a thing for dice, so rolling dice is always fun.

Flames of War was written by former GW guys I believe. Same problems, different skins on the models.

If true it makes all the praise I hear for it kind of hilarious.

The rules let German tanks with a TOP speed of 26 mph move/shoot/move while you stare helplessly. Yeah.

Its not that bad really, especially if you play early war. But moving makes it harder to shoot, along with the enemy skill, their cover and type, along with the range. So instead of simplifying down to stupidity, once you add in all the rules its not nearly as bad as made out.

While I know its the 40K of historic games, its still a huge improvement over 40k and for the most part is really balanced and leads to very close games almost all the time. Let alone the fact that history is far better than space fluff and people will take it more seriously when you try introduce them to a game

Its not perfect, but its great if you dont want a tedious historic skirmish game and its even better at getting GW players out of their shell to show them better rule sets etc.

I will never play that game as long as the Germans have the Stormtrooper rule. It's insane and not historic. Nor even physically possible, really.

I got into 40K because MTG frankly ticked me off. I got sick and tired of ridiculous pricing for decks to remain competitive. It is not unheard of for a deck to cost $800 in standard. Some people like it, I didn't. So I sold my cards and got into 40K because my friend suggested it.

I play 40K because I love the tactics, and the models. I enjoy painting, but I do commission some stuff because, well my guy makes it look a billion times more awesome than I ever could. I do like the environment at my FLGS so that helps a lot too. And I really like the fluff. Matt Ward specifically. Now some people here will troll me to death about it, but I play Necrons and Blood Angels and have really enjoyed his writing. His codexes are...well, screwy, but I really love playing Necrons so he isn't all bad in my book.

No. You are not a bad person at all for not liking the fluff. You are a bad person if you murder people. You are a bad person if you use rent/kid's food money to buy Methamphetamine. You are a bad person if you tape kittens to the pavement so you can squish their heads with a sledgehammer. Do you do any of these things? Do you feel like not liking the fluff makes you a bad person?

If you only play for the game itself, why don't you play a boardgame instead?
A lot less expensive and a lot less effort, for the same amount of fun.
40k is more than just a game, it is a hobby. If you don't care for the hobby, you'd be better of finding a better made, balanced and less complicated game. You will probably have the same fun for a much, much lower price.

You sir are a "horrible" person for attempting to limit your own personal Hobby(tm) experience in such a way that you are ignoring the entire stated Purpose(c) of Games Workshop. Apparently you live under a rock as it's been stated in many publications by Games Workshop that they are not in fact a Game company - please ignore all materials which might be classified as "gaming" devices available for sale on their site and the fact that the first four letters of the company name starts with "Game". That was just a coincidence and not meant to imply that Games Workshop encourages, warrants or even condones usage of their Hobby (tm) Products for any purpose other than to gather dust on a shelf safely hidden away from view.

As penance you should go to blacklibrary.com and spend all of your money on books and other non-gaming reference materials in order that you may know the Imperial Truth and be properly baptized in the Light of the Emperor.

All of that aside, is there a real purpose to this thread?

Maybe he's seeking validation? Though to be fair, this is probably a personal problem for him if that's the case...
