that's a positive. Chicago I cant hit a golf ball in any direction without hitting a game shop so pick up games and what not are easy to get almost any day of the week. Plus we have adepticon
Thanks for the info I can imagine that my hobby wont die then

NP, one of the popular shops in the region seems to be Jesters Playhouse, its in Atlantic County (Northfield I think) but they host a lot of gaming events down there. Theres also Showcase Comics in Philly IIRC. Im sure there are smaller shops scattered about that you can game at as well. Theres also lots of gaming events going on in the area regularly, kind of a triangle between Baltimore/Philly/NYC, which NJ sits squarely in the middle of, in which many gaming cons and/or tournaments occur (especially if you play games other than 40K, another big plus is that theres a very big and active Warmachine/Hordes community statewide, as well as in the Philly region. Infinity, Wrath of Kings, Malifaux, and Bolt Action have also been picking up some serious steam in the North/Central Jersey region as well, I would assume the same is true down south.. The only downside is that the shops and/or events arent as densely clustered together as they are in Chicago, this being Jersey, be prepared to drive about 30-45 minutes in any direction to get anywhere.
I love this state, but the road network sucks since (with the exception of the Garden State Parkway) its designed principally to get someone from a point outside the state to another point on the opposite side of the state, rather than to move people within the state to another part of the state. As such, an area that is only 20 miles away in a straight line distance could very well require you to drive 40-50 miles to get to since there is no easy straight-line route between them.

It is close to Jackson Mills and Route 9 intersection going towards Howell. It's in a plaza with a Windmill fast food.
O'connell wrote: MadMaverick76 wrote: O'connell wrote: MadMaverick76 wrote:Figured I would mention it here. There is a brand new hobby store opening in Freehold, NJ tomorrow called Nova Games. Looks pretty awesome, hoping it will sell 40k.
Did you end up going? I was checking out their Facebook page and it looks pretty legit, also very close to where I live.
I know hobbymasters is essentially a bust because they don't have a big 40k following and the only other store I know of, as mentioned by chaos, is Time Warp but they're about an hour+ from me.
So I went with buddy of mine. Seems pretty legit, just not much product so far. I am hoping the expand a bit, at least to carry the paints and some minis. Good size store though, definitely able to house a few games. Going to head back again this week with my buddy and do a few 500 point games to see what we can stir up in terms of interest. Probably going to bring a few different mini games to see what peaks interest.
Hoping to see a decent 40k following, definitely off to a promising start though.
Did the owners/employees mention anything about an interest from the community in 40k? Or if they would have designated nights and/or tables and terrain?
Their weekly calendar isn't set yet but as this is a sequel to Close Encounters to Brick I can only imagine 40k will have a presence. I will be going either tomorrow or Friday night to play a few games with my bud, 40k being one of them. Going to see what that stirs up in terms of interest.

Hey bro, welcome back! I'm still looking for a local place near us to play some games at as well as a bigger army and a bit more free time. However, when the stars align and I do get all these things, I'd be happy to play a few games with you as I'm just getting back into it myself and depending on what the last edition was that you played, I'll assume things aren't too much different.

It seems that in the grim darkness of the far future, there are no stores that host games near me.
In all seriousness, Nova games in Freehold is the closest store to me. There is also Close encounters in Toms River and East Coast Gamers in Toms River.
Did you guys check out those stores? Seems like you and MadMaverick are in the same area as me.
It's so damn hard to find a group of people to play with. I just need to fuel my warhammer addiction!

Been to Nova when they had a soft opening in the beginning of September. Since then though they have been closed, waiting for them to reopen, then I will probably be there every Monday evening with my buds doing Mercs, Deadzone, Bolt Action, and/or 40k.

The two stores I hit up regularly are:
- Maplewood Hobby, Maplewood, Friday nights - Mixed Competitive lists in a pick up and play setting, very friendly and sociable; you can expect guys who don't care too much about winning, just enjoying the thrill of crushing you with a great/awful/fluffy list, lots of Forgeworld models and custom-creations (like the Unicorn Wraithknight); it's hosted by an arts and gaming store so there's tons of painting supplies, painters touching up models, finished works in display cases, and TONS OF TERRAIN!
- Highlander Games and Comics, Boonton, Saturday nights - Extremely casual group focused on friendly gaming, restricts lists to single CAD, no allies, and no Lords of War/Super-Heavy/Gargantuans; so you can expect "fair" games for new players or light hobbyists without anything worse than a Screamerstar and few-to-no D weapons; there's limited terrain currently to support all the games played so expect very sparse amounts of cover.
Both are great places with friendly people constantly playing pickup games! Highlander is a more relaxed community of townies while Maplewood has the power and energy of the city.

Thanks for the info. I work way up north (at least its way up north) in Basking Ridge and I know the Bearded Dragon is also nearby. The hard part is figuring out different schedules and time commitments, etc. It's difficult because all the places up north have games on the weekends and I'm not up to drive an hour and a half one way to play.

I heard Time Warp does 40k every Thursday I believe? Regardless, don't give up, just keep building your armies because I will find some free time at one point or another and head over to some place. I'm still waiting to see if that store in Freehold has a 40k following. Since it's so close, it'll probably be my best bet.

I hear that. It's hard because I'm just starting the hobby up after a long hiatus and I never really played a full game (other than the battle of Macragge). But I am super fascinated by Warhammer 40k. Played almost every video game dedicated to the lore and I enjoy the modeling/painting too. The miniatures just look badass and I want to get into it. Just no friends who share the same hobby. Thanks for the support guys.
My weekends are usually shot due to other commitments so I'm thinking during the week would be the best time to play.
I keep checking Nova's facebook page to see if they're opening anytime soon - but nothing yet.
TLDR; Just want to geek out and play warhammer.

Guys have no fear. I talked to Close Encounters (Sister/Brother store to Nova Games) and I was told two weeks due to permit issues getting resolved. So there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel that hopefully isn't a train?!?!
With that said, I will be starting a 40k club there if no one else does. I need to meet with the owner and discuss dates and such to see what can be worked out. I am currently in the process of dismantling my game room in my house (taking 2 6x4 tables with lots of terrain is tough) to make room for a guest room as per the wife's request. With that said I will need a new place to play. I currently possess every army in 40k in built and painted condition. I am going to see about loaning them out to the store with pre-made lists for any casual players or people who are curious. I don't have the room for the 40k I have (I possess about 600 individual models accompanied by about 100 various vehicles, all painted and built).
My hope is to share my 40k items with new comers and encourage the group to expand. This is of course as long as there is nothing already in the works, which hopefully a discussion with the owner can provide. I hope to reignite my passion for 40k as I have become more enthralled with easier and cheaper miniature games that I will also be bringing along with me.
I am currently bringing two-three people with me on this endeavor so we shall see how it goes.

An independent forum would be pretty cool. With separate spots of all the sectors of the state as well as a board listing all the local tournies. Maybe a link page to all the sites of different clubs around the state.

Hey guys , I'm from Lincoln Park. I didn't even know Boonton had a store? I don't live far from there. Time Warp Thursdays are very casual and laid back. That's why our tournaments are so restricted . It's deseigned for the average gamer to participate without the latest power creep in hand. But starting a Facebook group might not be a bad idea.

bring an 1850 list and whatever SHV/GC's you want.
There will be a FW warlord titan on the board!

I'm part of a group that meets every Monday starting at 5pm. Most of the group has played 40K at some point and is now on to other games. However, there are 2 brand new players and I'm looking to start it up. Could use more players. The atmosphere is light and non competitive (beer and pretzels just without the pretzels). We are located in Randolph, NJ. Have tons of tables and scenery. Would love to start an escalation.

I think my buddy, who also just got back into 40k, plays at TOGIT and has a couple times. I've been on somewhat of a hiatus just because life has been getting busy but am definitely looking for some games in the near future.
Also, does the game room definitely have tables still? That's the closest store to me as I live in middlesex county and have always enjoyed the low-key aspect of the game room.
