The Devilfish kit is 16 years old, and the same hull is used for the Hammerhead and Skyray. It's about the only kit in the Tau range that hasn't been replaced since launch. Part of GW's strategy is to release new versions of existing army kits, with higher prices. Therefore it would make a lot of sense for the Devilfish to be replaced.

Combined Devilfish/Skyray/Hammerhead kit? Two less SKUs to keep track of and a higher price! Sounds like win-win to me

That would fit the pattern of the new Tau infantry kits.

If they redo all of the moulds it might turn out quite nice, but I suspect the price for the combined kit would be something like £40 or more, which starts to look prohibitive for a starting Tau player who might need six or seven of them.

I bought my Tau vehicles in 2004-2006, when a Devilfish was £18 and a Hammerhead was only £20 as far as I can remember.

Oh no! We've got on to the topic of how GW kits are very expensive! How did that happen?

Orc Codex probably going softcover, like the other codex re-prints after the initial run.

Something happening with Chaos Marines, there were already two threads about this yesterday.

The Putrid Blightkings and Maggoth Lords were already reboxed with round bases.

Yeah, but the ones in the pic are with square bases.

Runnin up on ya.

The battle maniple? Isn't that less than a year old?

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

The best way to tell which overpriced old metal half incomplete or currently out of print models sell well? Just look at the recasters. If a model is oop and recasters still don't make it then you know that model is dead for sales.

Sisters will gets its turn, inqusition I certainly see a box game with new models, Templars only requires a champion and transfers,

Everything else you mentioned including catachans are going to disappear someday.

That's what the current hammerhead kit is already, so all they'll need is a rebox. Those kits are some of the few left that haven't been updated to Vior'La sept colors so they're overdue for it.

The real question is what are they doing with the piranha? It's not exactly a bad kit, and was featured in several new formation in the brand-new codex, so I can't see it going away. Could they be adding some new variation of it, or maybe putting two in a box (for 2.5 times the price)?

Probably just getting rid of old devilfish/piranha boxes as the new ones are in the viorla scheme and have the "TX/TY" bit of the name added

I still remember, from many years ago, when GW sent a message to independent retailers to not let people use GW miniatures for games by other companies.... And the store owner laughing it off.

The fact that they got rid of Tomb Kings is irritating - now that KoW has Empire of Dust, I was actually interested in getting the Battalion box.

Not to be, I fear.

The Auld Grump - GW takes two steps forward, one step back, a lurch to the side, and then staggers in a random direction while balancing a sausage on its nose to get a +1 to the roll....

Why would GW care if you use GW models for non-GW games?

The more kits people buy the better, I should think.

Because GW is completely committed to the idea that players must not, at any cost, escape from the "GW Hobby". If you allow player to leave that mindset, it opens up the floodgates. People buy kneadatite not Green Stuff, they realize there are other paints that are better and cheaper than GW's selections. And, worst of all, they might discover that there are other gaming companies out there that want their business...

I have no idea, and I completely agree.

Yet they did.

I don't even remember what other games (aside from D&D) folks were using GW miniatures for - GW was the 500 pound gorilla, and most of the games being played were GW games. (This was back in the 2nd edition WH40K days. Plastic regiments for Fantasy were a brand new and exciting thing.)

And yet....

Well, they just FAQed Sisters and Inquisition; perhaps that is a good sign :-)

Then again, perhaps it's a precursor of the old models being turfed to be replaced with a new box of models where power-armored females are taking acrobatic flying leaps off of pointy heels from tall spires. And, of course a Knight sized Penitent engine

Rebox maybe?

Web only?

A rebox:

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Tau-Empire-TY7-Devilfish-2015

Looks like they just updated the box to be in line with the rest of the Tau range. And to have that bland blue background they've been using for a few years.

GW Derby has posted a picture on their FB with some stuff to buy before it's sent back to the factory, if that means anything. Some of it are the old Fantasy Battleforces, but interestingly, Sangiunius Strike Force and the Battle Demi Company box sets are in the picture.
