Hey everyone,
Since before there was a Stompa Kit I wanted to make my own Ork Stompa. Back in the day it was a badge of honor. The fact that you couldn't buy one made it all the more awesome if you HAD one. It was my opinion that no Ork Player could graduate to Warlord without constructing his own. It was the honor that money could not buy. Many of us felt this way back in the day. The greatest among us was KROOZA. He was truly the master of scratchbuild. One of his greatest contributions was a scale chart that showed the relative sizes of the stompas, gargants, great-gargants, and others. All based on Epic 40K.
One day I was drinking a bottle of PowerAde and I sez to myself, "This is a STOMPA, I tells ya!" I snagged one - and a second, drank the contents, and over time began to collect the bitz and pieces I would need to transform a lowly bottle into an Orky, Stompy Bringer of DAKKA. The next piece I obtained was from a friend who said, "Scratchbuild? Take whatever you want!" He had saved (for some unknown reason) various bottles, boxes, and caps. In that box o' junk I spied one prize - a glass jar once used for minced garlic. It would be used for my Stompa's head.
Not long after I would begin the (boring) job of tiling my basement. Through this experience I learned one thing - Gorilla Glue GOOD. Superglue wasn't good enough for my Stompa. I Gorilla Glued the jar to the top of the bottle and THERE - THERE was my Stompa. Unfinished as of yet, but the main idea was there. It would remain in this state for many years. Gamers would come to my game room and ask what it was. "Dat's my STOMPA" I would say, usually to chuckling and joking remarks. Boss Solorg would get his Revenge... hur hur hur.
So the feet were eventually made from Tic-Tac boxes, the Chainsword and head-mounted turret from an old Spirograph Set, and lots of BITS from various Ork Kits made up most of the rest. I tell ya, it REALLY looked grand when it was finished enough for the primer coat of silver.
When all was said and done I looked back on my notes and realized in shock that I'd acquired the bottle a full NINE years ago. The second bottle is currently undergoing a similar transformation and there will be pics of Stompa #2 as well once it is finished.
The Stompa, of course, is not painted - but that didn't stop me from running him around on the battlefield. I do intend to paint this monstrosity soon - indeed, the WAAGGHH demands it. For then, only then, will I have truly earned the honor of Warlord.
Krump Some Oomies!
