Hi all. With the new edition of my beloved Guard and of the game I'm on a building and painting kick. Decided to work on some guardsmen I acquired when a friend switched to Tau. Originally they were supposed to be storm troopers but I want to use them as vets instead. There were originally eight of them with ghillie suits. I added in a rocket launcher team to make a ten man unit. The rocket team won't be getting the suits as I don't have great green stuff skills. I don't want to go with a greenish/khaki uniform with them as the ghillie suits will likely be greenish. I was thinking greyish. Here's a pick of the squad minus the tenth man, he's not finished yet) along with a member of my current vet squad. I like my vets standing out on the battlefield. This unit is designed as a heavy weapon team. Demo charge, grenades, rocket team (with all 3 rocket types) and 3 plasma guns!
EDIT: iPad flipped the picture, not sure why...

I don't think with the current codex you can have 3 specials AND a heavy any longer.
Additionally why a demo charge on a static unit? It's a 30pt investment that may never get used.

I wasn't sure about the rocket team and the plasma but reading over the codex: "two veterans may form a heavy weapons team who MUST take one item from the heavy weapon list" and Up to two (or three, if no heavy flamer is taken) remaining veterans that have not been upgraded with one of the options above may replace their lasgun with one item from the special weapons list" That seems to say 3 special weapons and a heavy weapons team are both allowed. It's like I said, heavy weapons. They are to go in against vehicle heavy enemies, so the upgrade is also to get me melta bombs.

I think you get 3 specials and a heavy. It certainly looks that way in the book.
What advice did you want by the way?
If it's painting advice you want I'd say stop painting while standing on your head. Its impressive sure but the results are usually shoddy.

Haha! Yeah, but it's sure a lot of fun and a heck of a workout too.. really gets my back straight. Just curious what people think for colors to use. I'm thinking a light grey on dark grey but not sure yet. Also not sure what colors to do the ghillie suits.

Well what theater do you see your army typically fighting in? That's a good way to figure out ghillie suit colors. As for uniform I think what you've got going works fine.

Hadn't thought about how I was going to base the unit. Probably going to keep with the grass flock like the pictured one. Finished the 10th man, really happy with his look. He's decked out with ammo with the launcher.
