Hi,
What brand of paints did you use for the model, it looks neat and clearly you know what colours work with others.
The cloak looks a little 'grainy', excuse me if that's the intention. Hence why I ask about the brand of paints.

Ah ok, what did you use for the weathering, forgeworld do a set of weathering powders. They are not cheap, but they are very good.
For 6 months painting this is very good mate

Looks good, and the face is great too.
If you want a cheap alternative to weathering powders, I've had some good success using dusted-on artist's chalks in various browns/reds for weathering, it gives a nice dry dusty look.

Dusted on isn't a brand, it's the method I use to apply them Sorry for the confusion. What I meant was that you grind up a little bit of the chalk and dust it on with an old brush. Blow the excess off the model and you should be left with a nice weathering effect. As for where you can get them, I imagine most arts/crafts stores will have something you can use. Also, I just took a look at your gallery; that Boss Snikrot is pretty damn good too

I think it works out at 3-4 quid a pot, or you can buy sets which works out slightly cheaper. Keep posting your work so we can see your progression.

I've used cheap student boxes of pastels to create powders. You can make your own shades by just mixing different colours together. One tip is to find a spice grater. This is one I got: http://www.wilko.com/kitchen-gadgets/wilko-mini-grater-stainless-steel/invt/0278074?VBMST=spice%20grater
It has a little tray for collecting the grated material.
Re the mini - his eye is a bit wide. This is a very common 'mistake'.
If you are going to do eyes (I don't bother any more for human-sized minis unless they're just red, like orks) try holding the brush parallel with the face & paint on an oval shape. You then do a semi-circle with the bottom just touching the bottom of the white part. To do both of these steps your paint has to be diluted just right - I find that this is actually the hardest bit to get right. A small, high quality brush is also recommended.
You'll note on this figure, I haven't bothered with the iris but from more than a foot away no one will notice:
That being said I once managed to give a figure black pupils on blue irises. But I was much younger with better eyesight!

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Cheers bubber, if this is regards to his right eye its a lens. Hence the reason it is just blue. Although I have painted his left eye with a blue iris and the black pupil.
