Having already built the minotaur bullgryns for my mutant/renegade guard army, I turned my attention to they're diminutive comrades. The ratling snipers.
As my army is themed around the iron warriors novels, I decided there will be a lot of mutation involved, I.e, beastmen and other whfb parts, the obvious choice for the ratlings was to base them on skaven. Here we hit a problem, so far I have given them 40k weapons and accessories but I'm not convinced they scream 40k. I dont want them to look like they dont belong in the 40k universe, so its time to ask the kind dakkanoughts what they think.

Any suggestions guys?
Cheers.

hmmm... interesting project for sure...

where is see the most difficulties is in the posings of the hands... you need to get yourself some more goblin or human hands... the pistol wielding fella is one of those cases where I would change the hands...
also... adding other gubbinz like grenades or pouches could be helpful... maybe you are even so bold as to carve out a cadian helmeted head and put a skaven head inside?...that could help a lot

Cheers vik. Hand swaps aren't a problem as I have tons of Cadian hands and arms left over. As for the helmets..... Challenge accepted. Lol

Oooooo I like that idea, I don't really care for the IG ratling models.

I think it's the armor that doesn't look right to me. There's just to much for snipers.
Is there time/opportunity to change the base of the models? Personally I would have started with Plague Monks or Night Runners/ old style clan rats as a base. The Plague Monks are hunched over and with a little green stuff the robes become Ghillie suits. The Night runners are less armored, and a bit more poseable.

Great idea, and I like (from the first pic) the middle and right models, but I think the left one needs work as the rifle is pretty iffy.

Yeah. I agreed about that rifle. That was the first one I built, and I used a dark eldar barrel. The other two have the standard lasgun barrel with an extension section added in.

As for the armour. Yeah I can change the base model to a less heavily armed version, I only got stormvermin as its all my local independent stockist had. I can always use the stormvermin as heavy weapon teams, as eventually all my gunners and artillery crews will be "ratlings".

Cheers guys.

I agree with the first comment that the biggest problem seems to be with regards to hands.

Fortunately, as they're supposed to be mutants, I don't think this will be a gigantic issue. You can reuse some guardsmen arms / hands as needed, as well as some goblin pieces and it will still look "in-synch" because they're odd looking mutants in the first place.

I do so like to see the imaginative creations that make our hobby so unique. Keep it up.

Wow. Thank you all for the suggestions, I have a day off work tomorrow, so I'll have some time to play around with the posing and fix that rifle. I also have a few ideas for fixing the armour and adding ghillie suits.
