I'm curious, how many people here would still buy models from GW if the tabletop game suddenly disappeared. Assuming that for some reason people don't continue to play with what they have.

Basically are you a collector or a gamer?

I'll probably play the last Edition with those who still wish to play. And the buying would be limited to small expansion to the force and for painting fun. But less.

The point of this poll is to assume that no one will ever play any old editions again, the game simply doesn't exist anymore. Would you still buy stuff PURELY to paint and collect or use in other games.

I rarely play now and working on a heresy army in an area that has no interest in 30k. So I probably wouldn’t change my hobby spending habits.

there's more than just playing.

Uhm, no. Never. I absolutely hate painting models. Like, holy crap, hate it. I let all my stuff get painted now.

I don't play the game that often. Twice in a year or so.

I've pretty much already stopped playing and buying GW stuff. Unless the new Ork codex is really fun then I most likely won't come back.

Right now it sure looks grimdark (I hate that word so much) for my interest in 40k

I would still buy models but to be honest, not from GW though to be honest. I buy those only to play GW games with. If there were no game then I'd just buy whatever looked great modelwise, and there Gw falls short compared to a lot of other current offerings.

I buy models for systems I don't play already - if I like the look of them - I want 'em - Kickstarters are very bad for my finances.

Less from GW recently - been more getting the ones I have painted properly and that costs the money I would spend on new ones but least I have now have nice stuff gathering dust rather than dusty boxes

I use them in other games as well - so playing homemade scenarios, Judge Dredd, etc etc

I'd probably keep buying the odd mini, just to complete my must-have collection (there's few on the list I haven't got yet, though).

If I were buying purely for painting, though, I'd stick to Wyrd, Anvil and maybe Reaper minis.

I'd probably buy a lot of historical minis as well.

There's a bunch of stuff I'd still want just for completing my armies, but I'd be looking at discounters. While the spending may change, I'm not sure if it'd be less.

No, I wouldn't. As much as I love painting and modling, I would find it a waste of models and money if I couldn't play a game with them.

No. I buy the 40K models to use with the 40K rules.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I bought my first couple boxes completely rulesblind because I wanted to paint something different from the string of metal fantasy miniatures I'd been churning out. So I'd still have bought some stuff. Without the game I'd never have bought the vast majority of basic troopers or repetitive vehicles. I'd probably have only bought those first couple boxes instead of the multiple large armies I ended up with.

I might buy some WHFB stuff for use in my Pathfinder games. Almost bought some of the latest dwarf stuff for that reason. But I have a finite hobby budget, so I’d like to spend it on stuff that will be used.

I would stop buying models.

I buy model to play, and to be honest I paint to play Tournaments and paint well well to play GTs.

I'd switch games and buy their models.

I love painting and modeling my armies. I recently did a full reset (sold/traded everything and started new) just so I can have a blank canvas. In my earlier stuff I didn't pay much attention to modeling and just painted, this go-round Im doing my best to make everything above and beyond the norm (not just magnetizing). For example, I am magnetizing a lot on my Knight Titan, but also creating a cockpit with "glass" window and going to be doing a lot of detail modeling on the titan itself, and that is before I even prime it.

I just find assembling and painting to be relaxing, therapeutic, and fun. If the community stopped I would stop though. I like the fact that the models retain some value and the fact that people actually want to look at the finished product. If the community quits and the models don't retain their value and people don't want to look at the models, I quit. Until then I will be happily working on the starts of my Iron Hands rush list and my TBD IG/AM artillery list.

Resin Printer (minaitures) is a 4K printer with one of the largest build volumes available for a resin printer (192mm x 120mm x 245mm) with an amazing .01mm resolution! This professional printer is one of the best resin printers on the market!

FDM Printer (terrain) also has one of the largest build volumes available for an FDM printer (400mm x 400mm x 450mm) and has an amazing ,05mm build accuracy.

I'd buy a lot more Gundam models. Bigger, cheaper, better. More fun to put together. Aren't made for rules. (Though old Mekton Z rules would be awesome.)

Yup because I could use them in other games still. I used fantasy stuff for RPG's all the time. I probably wouldn't buy much 40K stuff though.

Nope. As much as I like a bunch of the models, they're not really such good display pieces compared to other models you could get instead. Without the game they'd be pretty pointless.

I bought my first few models before having any intention of playing the game, simply because I loved the fluff and was looking for an artistic outlet. painted for a good year before I played my first game.

I'd still buy 40k models if I wasn't playing, but I'd be buying based on what looked cool/fun to paint vs. filling a gap in my army lists

This describes myself quite well. I like to build models, I like dabbling with green stuff (still new to that), I like to kit bash, and I enjoy playing narrative games. I also like having completed painted models. That said, I abhor the process getting to it and will frequently pay for others to get it done.

Can I pick other?

My case and point: Epic, love the game, still get models: Why?

This!: http://www.netepic.org/

There can always be community feedback into a new rule-set no large old game should ever completely die.

I collect kinda but primarily like to play games, any games, that have some depth and epic greatness to them.

I almost never buy GW models. Hate most of them haha.

But if the game where to no longer exist (couldn't ever play it) I would actually sell all of it and move on to historical 100%. No reason to buy largely lame models for a dead game.

I have not played a game in three editions. I still paint and convert pretty extensively, and have been with 40K for 20 years.

Most likely any game in the near future for me will be with 2nd edition, so essentially I am collecting and painting armies without any regard to any modern edition.

If there were no 40K "game" at all, just the background fiction and the models, I would simply use another rule-set. I am into 40K for the setting, not the mechanics.

I'd still buy the minis for static display. My problem with GW is not the miniatures....

As I get older (34 now), I find myself more drawn to the modelling and painting aspect of games like 40k.

The occasional FC character model or big-gribbly for use in other games, maybe a box of Orks or IG or Sisters for use in other games to represent hordes of nameless mooks of some variety or another.

Sure, I'd still buy 40K models if the 40K game itself was somehow deleted from the world... but I certainly wouldn't pay GW prices for them. Their models are nice, but they aren't *that* nice.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
