Hey guys

Just thought I would share a few pics of my new DKOK Engineers.

In terms of the colour scheme I was looking to move away slightly from the traditional grey but still keep that drab and grimey feel with the green tinges on the armour.

As a side note, it's my first time painting anything like this in terms of shading etc. so any thoughts and opinions are welcome.

(apologies for the pic quality on some!)

Nice so far though the pictures are a bit dark.

Washes are magic, indeed, but I think you may have gone a touch overboard with them. It might be better if you sort of un-highlighted them, painting the ridges a darker color.

But it could also just be an effect of the lighting and the fact that you took the pictures with the flash on.

I'd go outside, wait for a cloud to pass overhead, and then give us a picture with the mini a little closer to the camera. cropping them and scaling them down wouldn't hurt either.

Washes are definitely a tad too much in some cases here I would agree.

Was trying a technique I saw where just prime in white, then build up with washes, no base layer colours as it were.

Think I realise now I maybe should've thinned them a bit/tried to prevent some of the pooling which I think hasn't helped.

Thanks for the feedback, will try and take some better pics, was having a bit of a mare with the lighting and focus ha

Nice work, and welcome to Dakka and the game!

These are very good, especially consider they're built up from a white basecoat with washes (a hard technique to master). If you're getting a lot of pooling, keep some dry tissue on hand, and just dab the corner into any pools when they form. Th tissue will soak up the excess and leave a lighter coat.

I think these look absolutley superb! I like the over washed look on these guys (maybe not on the guns) But I think it gives them a real gritty look.

Could you possibly tell me how you painted the armour? I have an idea and this would suit it perfectly!

I initially painted the armour with GW Runefang Steel then washed with GW Athonian Campshade. The tinge it gives looks kind of sickly/poisonous which I think ties in well with the whole idea of working in a hostile polluted atmosphere.

In terms of the washed out look I am still 50/50, as the fact it's slightly too much I think is good to an extent as obv uniforms wouldn't be perfect with oil/grease stains etc.
