There are a couple of units that can effect reserve rolls. If i go first and have two different models change the mofiers does that effect an alpha srike from a for sure come in to a 5 up come in?

There is no roll for 1/2 the drop pods that enter turn 1.

Ergo they will always come in turn 1 regardless of negative modifiers.

No, as no roll is made. You can take one from no roll all you like, but no roll still occurs

Sorry, you will have to find another way to deal with your opponents melta guns. Like 10" of conscripts/gaunts ;-)

half of your opponents drop pods come in automatically turn 1. cheesy opponents will buy empty pods they can drop turn 2 so that more key pods (with important shooty stuff) can land turn 1

How do you buy empty drop pods. They are a Dedicated Transport. I guess unless you buy them for units that can take them and just not have the unit on...I think I answered my own question but I'm going to post anyway in hopes that someone will either confirm or deny my thoughts.

That's correct.
You can buy Drop Pods for a number of units in the SM codex (Dreads, Tacs, Devs [I think], Honour Guard, various others, too).
Remember, a unit does not have to start embarked on their dedicated transport.

If I sound like I'm being a condescending butthole, I'm not. Read my reply as neutrally as possible, please and thank you.

You can have BB ride in allied transports, but you can't start the game in an allied transport.

So there really is no way to put an allied unit in an otherwise empty pod. You could attach an allied IC to a unit in a Drop Pod, but you can't put a full allied unit in one.

Rules reference, please.

Combined Reserve Units
During deployment, when deciding which units are kept as Reserves, you must specify if
any of the Independent Characters in Reserve are joining a unit, in which case they must
arrive together. Similarly, you must specify if any units in Reserve are embarked upon
any Transport vehicles in Reserve, in which case they will arrive together.
In either case,
when making a Reserve Roll (see below) for a combined unit, roll a single dice for the
unit and/or its Independent Character/Transport vehicle.

edit: You're thinking of Dedicated transports. These aren't dedicated.
