Ok, So be gentle on my poor poor list guys. Me and 4 friends all got army's and are still learning the rules and such. But this is my army so far

HQ: EC (140 points)

Crusader squad 1: 4 Initiates running with las/plas. 1 sword brother (no upgrades). (115)
Crusader squad 2: Same as above. (115)
Crusader squad 3: 4 meat sh-...I mean neophytes, 2 with shotgun, 1 with bolter and 1 with ccw and bolt pistol. 4 Initiates, two with bolters, one with flamer, one with power sword. 1 sword brother with plasma pistol, power fist and melta bomb. Also a dedicated rhino /w dozer blade. (225)

Assault marine 1: 3 marines with chain sword/bolt pistol. 1 marine with chain sword/ plasma pistol. 1 sword brother with bolt pistol and power axe and melta bomb. ( 130)
assault marine 2: 3 marines with chain sword/bolt pistol. 1 marine with chain sword/plasma pistol. 1 sword brother with power axe and combat shield and melta bomb (135)

Dev squad : 1 sword brother with bolter, 2 heavy bolters, 1 missle launcher, 1 plasma cannon. (130)

That's it! My general strategy is to have my EC join Crusader squad 3 and use that rhino to get in the enemy hq's face to challenge. I usually have been deep striking 1 of the assault marines while the other goes for either a VP or a high priority ranged target (like a thousand sons squad with that damn ap3 round...) all the while the other squads chill in the back and out range them with that las cannon, keeping them in cover.

I usually fight tau, who fields everything he can to get past meq armor while taking pot shots at me with those thrust moves, chaos who has thousand sons and a min/maxed psyker for warp charges on a jet bike I think (so he runs after psychic phase).....guy loves shriek....so annoying....grey knights, which the guy for some funny reason doesn't deep strike, so it takes until turn 3 to get to me because he foot slogs *shrugs* and ig with the bulk of his points in some chimera's packed with guard, with more guard bringing up the rear, and two russ's. That just gives you an idea of what I'm usually up against.

Oh, and I have some Legion of the damned on the way for my elites, cause I know my list is REALLY lacking elites.

Anyways, thanks for any advice you fine gents can possibly give me to boost my army list. (different hq comes to mind...thinking grimaldus?)

drop the plasma pistols, they don't scare ANYONE. just take 2 flamers instead of a plasma pistol, on the assault squad , it is better, and doesn't have the probability to kill your own guys... also take the combi melta and lightning claw on sword brother(he turns into mini-shrike in challenges) and swap the flamer in crusader squad for a meltagun.
drop the devastators for 5 man Lasplas crusaders(it is also more true to the BT fluff, since in old dex you had no devastators at all.. and you have pretty good list for friendly game
Oh and Emperor's champion, while usually garbage, he should do OK at this point limit unless you play against someone who decides to bring abaddon or something similar at 1k points, which is unlikely. Also, welcome to the tabletop, the goal is to win, the purpose is to have fun

Thanks for the pro tip! I didn't even think about having the melta in that crusader squad. Might help a bit when taking on that damned crisis suit commander...As for the 2 flamers instead of plasma pistols, I'm just curious why? Is it to try to thin out a hoard before moving into assault? Is that preferable over ap2 on a single target? I only ask because most of the time, I'm fighting Meq's that will laugh at a flamer (or so I think anyways, which is why I really haven't been fielding them.)

As for the dev's, I found the squad for 15 bucks at a hobby shop here and thought it was a steal. Since everybody that I'm playing against has elites in there army and I have none I decided why not field them to boost me a bit. But I just got my legion of the damned today, So they will be taking the points used for devs.

The EC is working out okay for the most part I feel. The chaos player I go up against cant beat him with the sorcerer he is fielding, and the crisis commander cant really do wounds on him, So it's just a matter of time until I roll a 6 and get that insta death . But I did fight an ork warboss the other day and he got slaughtered, so that was unfortunate. I'm only thinking of taking Grimaldus because of all the aura's he gets. But lets say I am playing at a higher point game, which commander should I get then? I also heard that the generic space marine captain (or was it chapter master?) is worth taking as your hq.
