As a follow up to my warhound, I bought this thing. Its still early days yet but I'm interested to know if the colour scheme is acceptable, or whether im commiting heresy of the highest magnitude.

This is a really great start, I approve! I almost feel the original Lord of Skulls is almost too red, and I feel this is a nice blend. You could throw in more red if you wanted, but I feel this is actually more attractive than the completely red color scheme. Bravo!

Cheers dude. I'm an iron warriors player, so all red wasnt going to fit In with the rest of my army, and we all know the iron warriors have the best warpsmiths.

I really like the toned down look. I hate the bright red color on the GW version. Good job on the metal!

Really liking the color scheme. You may have just not gotten to it yet, but the model is screaming for some weathering treatment! A model this big and nasty is bound to have seem a scrap or two

Nice work so far!

Awesome. Can't wait to see the progress of this. Hate models that look to clean/not grimdark enough, you look like you're going down the right path.

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

Update time I think. I haven't really done much this week due to work commitments. However I have made a little progress. Unfortunately some of the effects don't show up too well on camera, the fade from bone to metal on the headpiece for example. I still need to do some highlighting on the skulls, and theres a huge amount of work left on the silver. I'm aiming for a heavily worn, old steel effect similar to my defiler.

Oh and I'm really not happy with the red "glow" effect on the chest. It will be changed.

Damn dude, you just don't stop do you. Very nice work, looks a lot better than the original paint scheme. I'd hate to see that and your Titan opposite me on the board, it'd scare me to death.

Lol. Thanks dude. Theres more super heavy goodness on its way soon. Anyway, ive done a bit more work on the beast. Including a ridiculous amount of highlighting, and starting the blood tanks. The arms are nearly ready to glue into place and the fiddly bits are basecoated. I also sorted out the glowy bits in the chest.

Nearly done now. Just the exhaust pipes and some detail pieces left to do, as well as some ffinishing touches.
I have to admit, I'm pretty happy with how this scheme turned out.

Did I see some more free hand hazard stripes? Loving those skulls on the top part of the helmet/head? Would love to know what colour you painted them.

Haha. Yeah the stripes are back. As for the skulls, its black primer, kislev flesh, drybrush ushabti bone, brown and sepia washes, then more ushabti drybrushing and highlight with bleached bone.

Thanks dude. I finally managed to get the exhausts done today. So its just final detailing left to do. I'm planning on entering this into a local painting comp next week, so any feedback or suggestions on what needs doing would be appreciated.

I'm quite a rubbish painter so sadly can't give you any feedback or suggestions other than to say it looks bloody awesome. The cannon(?) in the stomach is the only thing that I'm thinking might need something but that just might be because I cant see it that clearly in the photos.

Cheers for the paint recipe for the skull s on the helmet. I'm definitely going to try it out on my Chaplains or similar.

Cheers dude, and no problem on the skull recipe.
Heres a close up of the stomach cannon in better light. Hopefully it'll show up a bit better. If I could go back and fix one thing, I'd have left the front off the cannon so I could paint inside it.

The inside of the cannon isn't painted? I've noticed that the cannon on one of the arms fires skulls but what does the stomach cannon use? Is it traditional rounds or warp magic/goodies? I've never actually seen one of these used on the table so I'm not familiar with its abilities/weapons.

Theyre mainly flamer type weapons that use the massive teardrop shaped template. You get a choice of three different cannons in the kit, two are boiling blood/ demonic bile based and one is the roll to hit type

The only thing I can think of(and it's not exactly a very good idea) is to maybe paint/draw a roiling whirlpool/waves of blood/daemonic bile on a small piece of thin card and maybe wedge it into the stomach cannon. Maybe something not to flashy to grab attention but just enough so people don't see the inside of it.
That being said I think the whole model is awesome and doesn't need anything else, I was only sort of nit-picking at the most extreme about the stomach cannon lol.

No worries dude. I figured I could use a pipette to inject some paint past the claws on the cannon barrel. Possibly some blood for the blood god to continue the khorne theme.

Wow that stomach cannon looks even more awesome now. Don't know what you did to it or how but it looks astonishing. Plus the extra bit of red breaks up all that silver and brass quite nicely.
Also a very well done on the 2nd place in the painting competition, it definitely deserves a rosette
