So I have never even entertained the thought of running a "Come the Apocalypse" ally, as I imagine it can be a brutal extra bit of micro-management to worry about. That said, while i'm relatively happy with my new GK and the new codex, there are some gaps which hurt me in my local meta.

For instance, their costly, and limited anti-air options hurts when a lot of local folks run flyer heavy. Other local players field a lot of AP2 models. Both are weaknesses to running pure GK.

I really like the idea of running Necron with them, as Nightscythes... at least for the moment, are dirt-cheap anti-air options, and taking Immortals in them is both cheap bodies on the table for objectives, but potentially the value of Gauss v armor.

Two of those, a Lord in a CCB (taking a Royal Court and thus a cheap Despairtek for...), and a unit of Deathmarks in another Scythe are cheap and fill those holes.

Thoughts?

Honestly, if you can deal with the ally restrictions and the violation of fluff, go for it. It is your models and your game that your playing.

I envision a semi-airforce build between the 2 armies. This is what I have in mind:

Librarian
3 units of strikers
3 stormravens

Bargelord
Deathmarks in night scythe
2 troops in night scythes
Doom scythe

If there are any points left-overs, get dreadknights or Necron storm-teks.

My 2nd option a very fast, MTO-style list:

Bargelord
Bargelord

2 troops in night scythes

3x6 wraiths

Librarian

Strikers

Dreadknight w/teleporter + heavy psycannon

Sh*t....I may have to try this out!

But last edition, GK's and Necrons were allies of convenience. How has the fluff changed from then to now?

It changed in 7th Edition when GW realized that it made no sense and that all Imperials should be Battle Brothers. I am sure the excuse was something about stopping Chaos.

The only thing that makes no sense is why Tyranids couldn't allow with anyone!?! I want my genestealer cults, dammit!

Well, fluff-wise, I prefer to play all my armies without any allies... even logical ones.

Thing is... my meta is getting over-run with "those f'n guys" who bring unbound cheese lists and are turning a fun, casual, game into something they foolishly think is this tournament balanced "super serious" game.

If I want to even remotely have a chance of winning on nights when they are around, I need to have one list in my back pocket that works at a higher level.

Heck, I was a 'Nid player first, and am no remotely concerned with having the best "anything" most of the time.

So yeah... I have toss out the fluff problems, but my concern was more asking how much the "Come the Apocalypse" penalties effect the actual act of play.

Does the 6" aura of potentially shutting off one of your units end up being a serious problem, or math-averaging out, is the "on a one your unit can't do squat" prove to not be too terrible in exchange for helping fix out-right gaps in a pure GK list?

In terms of fluff perspective... If any faction were to ally with Tyranids...then those 2 factions would most likely take over the galaxy

Almost forgot the OP'S question. The answer is no. The 2 factions naturally encompass each other inerms of synergy. The necrons have the cheap bust cost effective troops alongside respectably low cost flyers
while Gk bring some solidification to the psychic phase, and more over MC, Death Star element that is not of wraithstar but actually stronger because it is Draigo. The is no way to go wrong with allying gk with necrons. I wouldn't probably suggest running a deepstrike list with crons however, because you do need something on the field and more over you want the 2 armies to really be supporting one another rather than acting independently of one another.

Hope this helps

In terms of perspective...Tyranids are already taking over the galaxy.

On the topic of GK allies, would I be able to use the Nemesis Strike Force as my allies?

I cant find anywhere that says it must be your primary/CAD, but did find that it 'follows all the rules for detachments as in the 40k rulebook'.

I'm asking as I would like to be able to have a squad of Termies & a DK deep strike in turn one, thus solving the 12" no deployment bubble of Come The Apocalypse allies.

If not, they can drop in turn 2 easily enough, but having them on the board in turn one would be useful
