Hey kids,

I've recently transplanted up to New York City from.... various places, and I'm here for at least a year and probably longer. I have an extensive 40k collection, a good size LOTR Angmar set, and I enjoy playing Malifaux and Fantasy when I get the chance (but I don't have stuff for those games any more). On hand I just have a few Sisters models to build and paint, nothing to play with, but I wondered if there was a really good store anywhere in town I could hit up to relax and pick up supplies and things from time to time? At the very least I need to get a hold of some new modeling tools so I can really work on the stuff I brought with the move (forgot brushes, clippers, knives, files, etc....)

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Alpharius is that guy at the FLGS that just got his first 'Start Collecting' box fully assembled, and Guilliman's the guy that's been playing since the 90's. When Alpharius started doing well, Guilliman said he didn't play a 'real army' and started screaming about how he sucked. Then Alpharius tabled him.

Its been a while si e I gamed in NY but you can start at the Compleat Strategist on east 33 rd and 5 th ave.

The Warmongers Club plays there.

After that there's the GW store on 8th and Broadway.

You might also check te handy store finder and payer finder on te top of your screen

I second Compleat Strategist.

I seem to remember a place called Neutral Ground as well but I think that is defunct.

There is also the Warstore over in Jersey, and I think something out on Long Island.

There is also a Brooklyn wargaming group, I think one of their members posts up here or on TheMiniaturesPage.com.

For a city of 14 million there does seem to be a dearth of gaming, but IMHO Compleat Strategist is your best bet.

I left NYC in 2000, so things might have changed, but I'm sure you will find something.

Is there a GW in the Village still?

Also remember in Manhattan STREETS run across the Island and AVENUES run the length. Now you won't look like a total tourist when you are searching for, well anything really.

While you are there definatley see some sites, Battery Park, Statue of Liberty, Empire State, Chrysler bldg, Woolworth bldg, WTC site (used to see those every day, from across the river when I walked to work. The sun from the east against an eggshell blue sky on a cool spring morning, beautiful) Take in a Broadway show, Guggenheim, The Met and Natural History (The planetarium is pretty cool as well as the full scale blue whale model). Take in Central Park each season and try to go to Shakespeare in the Park if you can, and its a bit expensive but Tavern on the Green is pretty nice as well.

Anyhow, enjoy NYC it really is the greatest city on earth!

Depending where you are, there are a number of places farther upstate as well, as well as across the border in NJ.

But it sounds like you have a lot of recommendations in the city itself.

I just started up the hobby and would be interested in meeting up and playing when you get your models.

I work in midtown.

Alas Neutral Ground is long gone, it was a pay to play space in midtown. NY has also gone from 4 GWs to 1, but the one in the village near NYU is still there.
