If I had the resources I would have used other bases that are more suitable for it but I'm working on limited income.

The snow is just some fake snow from my lgs, I think it's for bolt action, mixed with pva glue.

I think you overdid it a bit. I get what you were doing with the snow on the models itself, but I think it looks a bit like they were salted like a bunch of pretzels.

You can also get good looking bases for about five dollars. Just buy a bag of basing sand from any sort of art supply store and some PVA glue, then glue that sand down. The snow drifts on the base are neat, but yeah, the black peeking through looks a bit rough. If you glue sand down, paint that (could even do a grey/brown scheme or something suitably desaturated) the snow would look better on top of it.
