It's a cool idea, and my biggest suggestion is learn to base. Go to a good hobby shop or order some fine sand/ballast. Mix a small amount of your larger rocks in, and glue it to the base. But first, smooth out the area between the claws and the ground so it is a nice curved angle.

Straight away you'll see an improvement,

Add some bits of rubble along the length of the claws to emphasise the " bursting from the ground"
look.

Another easy trick is to use epoxy puddy like greenstuff or even wood/drywall fillers to build up around the claw area while adding cracks to simulate them coming from under ground

As well you could paint a demonic aura of corruption around where they pop out to give it a big more zing.

Using diffrent sized rocks also helps break it up.

If you look at many large claws/tusks in White Dwarf magazines, you'll see how they make very convincing claws by adding some contrasting lines that run from the base of the claw to the tip, and triangle-type patterns near the base, plus some heavier washes near the base to give the feeling of shadow.

As goblinz said, adding to your model base would be helpful -- you could even just paint on GW astrogranite (the grey paint-on textured basing stuff), wash black, and drybrushlight grey.

Personally, I think that's a bit of an exaggerated trope that many people accept because GW's been doing it for ages and it 'kinda looks right' without much further checking. Kind of like a circle in a pointed oval looks recognisable at a glance.

Buuut anyway. That and plenty of other things have been suggested, but I'm curious about the original question. When you say you want to paint daemon claws in a convincing way, what did you have in mind? Did you want the cow-horn look, or something like the crabs or other crustaceans they came from, or something gone a bit warped (particularly as in, y'know, the warp) and off-the-wall?

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

This is what I had in mind, by the way -- the dark crimson claws with blended to black at the base. The tail claw looks good

What I wanted in my mind’s eye is a devil red clawed hand (three fingers and a thumb) beginning to come out of the ground...
I think that ill redo it first get the paint with details and then mold finger tip stubs to go with these claws
Use cork to simulate the cracks in the Cement/Asphalt and attach rubble strategically to the claws
Thanks!!

And yes... why pass over the chance to use props where ever you might come accross them...i.e. Crabs...(I used shears in the main claws themselves...)
