Ash waste. (Black dry brushed Grey). A good flat complement to a fairly brightly coloured chapter too.

Well, green armor and with tones of red, silver and black?

I think dark/grey bases are cool for that color scheme, maybe just do the "ashen cold world", with some black primed sand, drybrushed with greys.

Also, one funny thing to do is base them in a desert look... The tan and yellow color could mix well with the green of the salamanders, and deserts are hot places, filled with fierce looking lizards and the likes of it... Also, they are very tied with Red Dragons in the typical medieval fantasy.

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...
My take on Demiurgs (enjoy the reading):

Please, if you think im wrong, correct me (i will try to take it constructively).

I've done both an ashen waste and lava basing for my Salamanders. I even did a tester using the Agerellan* Crackle earth technical paint. *I think I mispelled that*.
I just glued on some sand and painted it Abbadon Black, then dry brushed Vallejo Basalt Grey.

If you are interested in actually doing lava for things such as terminators, and believe me they can be done quite well, just let me know.
