Decided to try my hand at making a game table top for the first time. As my interest in GW games has been on a slide lately I have been looking around and Dropzone Commander has been scratching that itch for me. Love that its a true scale game and love the cardstock buildings Hawkwargames starts you out with in the box set. After going over the poster map they give you to play on I decided to take it up a notch and came up with an idea for a static ruined city with a highway, train tracks, and possible monorail.

Hit up the local home depot for the base materials today and got started.

Two 2'x4' static sections that will lock together to create a 4x4 table with a slight lip. I will build the other half tomorrow when i get some more cheap 1"x1/2" strips to finish the supports and edging. Going to also make a crude interlock with 2 H shaped pieces in the middle to keep the 2 half's together while gaming. Drawing out where the roads, sidewalks, building foundations, and highway are going to go now.

So will the buildings be the flat cardboard ones, or will you scratchbuild them?

I plan on scratch building square rubble filled foundations so whenever we destroy a building then I can just pull off the cardstock one and reveal the ruined remains.

Got a bit more done on the first half of the board. Need to go hit up the hobby store now for some balsel wood and plasticard to start building foundations and about 1 story deep destroyed walls that fit the width of each of the card stock buildings.

Got a little bit more work done on the board this morning. Cut down some PVC pipe to use as pillars for the highway. Cut out a good deal of the foundations and started glueing them down to the board. I cut it so each foundation sticks out 1/8th of an inch all the way around the cardstock building. Got 1 of the foundations with the internal walls setup so I could test fit the cardstock building on top and make sure it slides on an off easily. Once I get the rest of the foundations done I will start building up the internal walls to look like blown out rubble and add in pillars and flocked rocks to make it look more like a blown up building.

Definitely a clever way to go about. Are the foundations glued or mobile? I'd leave them lose so they can be moved about
