Well, I bought the kit, and kept it in a box for 1 year: it was just to horrible to be built as it was.
A 45° engine re positioning, wings extension, and severe rhinoplasty, and there we are.

Better?

I don't actually mind the original, but I have to say this looks awesome!

Great job on the conversion.
One very minor niggle from my side.
The wing extensions could use some "recesses" like the original IMHO.
Other than that. Great..

I agree with Tjomball - IF you're going to all this effort, why not add some detail to the plasticard part of the wing so it looks congruent with the modeled part? Looks great otherwise!

This makes the "flying fist" -look turn into something more awesome, practical - and actually purchase-worthy!

Now I see the model in a new light, and might actually buy it in the future (to make similar adjustments to it, of course).

I think that saying the model is "horrific" is a little strong. Hyperbole should be saved for when it's really needed.

As it's been pointed out, the wing inserts need detail to blend with the model, and if the wings are being extended, I would think the tail would need some lengthening as well.

As is, IMO it looks worse than the original since the dimensions are wonkier than normal. I hardly think "wing inserts, move this/that, and done!" is a solution to improve it.

Maybe after it's painted up it'll look better, but I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

EDIT: Forgot to point out that the tail wing is backwards. Flaps don't face forward. If intended, shave off the "hinges".

Point taken, the wings needs extra detailing - that must be why i was reluctant to start painting it

As for horrific: i do think it is, but that is only my opinion. If they wanted a wingless stubby thing, it still was possible to come up with something sexier.
As soon as my Thunderhawk/Stormhawk is done, i ll fix these wings.

Thank you House Griffith for these aeronautical engineering considerations.
It was actually intended, since most of the manoeuvrability of the flyer would come from the variously positioned thrusters, i meant the tail, which is very close to the main body, to act more as extra flaps (lace) than left-right direction.
