I may be blind but I can't seem to find a restriction on this, so is it possible to field a CAD from say Codex Orks and another CAD from codex Chaos. And if yes, what is the point of the Allied Detachment? One troop slot less?

Yes and yes.

There is no limitation of what detachments/formations your army is made up from, unless those are imposed by the detachment itself. For example, you could not have two formations which force you to make on of its members your warlord.

See this picture for an example of a perfectly legal battleforged army:

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

The complete lack of any signs of artistic ability should be a good sign of me being the author of that picture.

That very nice table (Thanks Jidmah) was in an earlier post a few months back. Doesn't stop the question coming back...

Just copy down the link for reference as Sticky threads, even WHEN FULLY IN CAPITALS do not stop users from ignoring them
