Up front: I am in no way affiliated with this project. Just found out about it today, and while I'm not even sure I can justify the expense of participating as fully as I'd like to, but I thought some Dakka folks might be interested in talking about it, perhaps even backing.

According to what I'm reading in the comments, they expected to have a few days or a week to refine the campaign during the often occurring Kickstarter validation period, and instead it went live 2 minutes after they hit Go and they've been scrambling a little to catch up since.

Anyway, they're still in their first day or two and are already at 10% funded even with a bit of a struggle to get started. That said, it's also a LONG campaign at 46 days, so there's lots of time for a paycheque or three to come through.

I can't even justify that, because it is hard to game in the dark.

But that doesn't stop it from being AWESOME.

Well, that's indeed interesting. Expensive, but really rather cool.

I love the look of this, I hope it all goes well.

Fairly awesome concept. Unlikely to purchase, but could definitely add to the immersion of a high level campaign.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

I'm surprised they're not targetting model railroad enthusiasts. One of these under a town layout and easy streetlighting is in reach - not having to replace / rewire LEDs and having some freedom in placement...

I'm pretty sure Kickstarter dropped the project validation requirement a few months back...

A 46 day campaign is just silly... It's been pretty well proven not to help a project.

Love the LED lit bases. Pretty cool stuff but their goal is steep.

Really nice stuff ,but it's about twice as expensive as it would need to to qualify as affordable.

It's certainly not for the faint of heart. I waver on whether or not I can justify a mat and some lights/terrain bits (the lit X-Wing asteroids alone would be awesome), but with 6 weeks to sort it all out, maybe I can find the funds (or justify it being part of the January bonus).

It'd be nice to see this get funded at least. If they can expand production and start building up their line and sales, it's possible that the technology will become cheaper. That's something they mention, either in the videos or comments, I can't recall exactly where the quote was, but the idea is that as it becomes more broadly applied, like most technology, it should also become cheaper as well.

I can't see doing a full 6 mat table for some of the larger games out there, but a mat for some smaller purposes initially, and with room to expand later, well that holds some appeal.

Up to 18k and there's lots of time left, though I do agree; long campaigns are often slogs.

Cancelled. It wasn't even close to it's goal to be honest. The creators say they will launch again though, and this time they will include a 4x4 mat (which sounds like a good idea to me).

Yeah the 150K stretch goal was not achievable at all given the rate people were backing it.
