Subject: Assembling the Tyrannocyte and Making GS Tentacles for the Mucolid

Hey although this may not require a whole thread, I want to give anyone who purchased the Tyrannocyte kit a tip that I learned after assembling one of these bad boys. Unlike the Carnifex or trygon kits, the miasma stacks on the Tyrannocyte are a little tough to assemble. Maybe it is just me but I had a very hard time assembling these bits via the instructions given. Basically you glue two halves of a stack together first and then glue that combined bit to the larger carapace. This assembly worked very well for the trygon kit because it's miasma stacks were not as curved as the Tyrannocyte's or as easy as the Carnifex kit which had half the miasma stack modeled into the carapace. The Tyrannocyte however had very curved stacks that are very hard to hold and glue together. After assembling my first model with many colorful metaphors, i came up with a better way. Check out the photo below:
This here is a photo of when I was assembling my Tyrannocytes. Fot parts 59 - 75 and 9-11, assemble them one piece at a time by gluing the small parts (59 - 75) to the large carapace parts (parts 9-11) . Don't try to glue the small parts together first before gluing them to the larger parts. These parts are very hard to glue together especially if you have sausage fingers like mine. If you glue one small part at a time to the larger parts you will have a much easier time assembling this kit.
In other news, check out my Tyrannocyte bases!

I appreciate the advice. As I have botched a couple of those stacks leading to some GS filling this will undoubtedly come in handy.
Nice work on the bases.

I am glad the advice will help. I got pretty mad when assembling my first one and thought that no one should go through unnecessary grief over this model! Anyways thanks for the comments on the base. Here is a better photo of them.

Looks good, and thanks for sharing...I will fwd this to a friend of mine struggling with this exact part.
For my personal ones, I am just going to convert my old spore pods ....(greenstuff tentacles to rise it up ....).
The bases look good too!

Thank you so much for the tip. I will do this when I get my mini. Sold out so hopefully this weekend or next.

Believe me, this tip is a blessing for this kit. I am glad a few people will get use out of it. In the meantime, how about some more WIP pics of this kit being assembled?

Do just use green stuff for the tenticles on the Mucolid's or is there another reinforcing part to keep them standing?
They look really nice.

Did you make an armature for those mucolids?

I thought about using a piece of wire covered with green stuff for the tentacles but in the end just used regular green. Stuff and let it cure before I glued it in place.

Thanks for the comment! Nothing but green stuff for the tentacles. I have about four or five (out of six) of the tentacles glued to the base. They seem to hold the model in place rather well (about the same as you would expect from fine cast...i.e. Slightly bendy which helps keep them from snapping off.) If you decide to make tentacles like this roll them out with the palm of your hands and then lay them on a flat surface (like a bit container box) to dry. I flipped mine a few times to keep the green stuff from becoming flat against the surface over the course of a few hours. Once they are completely cured you can glue them to the plastic Mucolid bitz. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is a WIP shot of the GS tentacles drying:

This is exactly what I had been planning on doing.
Can you get a height measurement of the thing top to bottom?
(I estimated 4" from measuring the parts on the sprue, but did not have one assembled).
thanks again for posting these.

Mine were about 5" I think. I will take a photo with a ruler today. I also got these things painting last night. I will post some photos of them finished too!
Anyways thanks for the comments!
