Subject: Lucius Pattern Drop Pod - bent fins

So I got my Lucius yesterday which I plan to use to drop a Ven MKIV DA Dread behind enemy lines. Both beautiful models, indeed.
So far everything seems to be well casted, no bubbles and the like (compared to Finecast (AARGH!)... GOSH, 0/10, would not purge with) with one slight exception:
The 3 fins that hold the engine and seal the doors are slightly bent.
Now I've worked a little bit with Finecast (AARGH!!) and could straighten the sword on Belial with a hairdryer, but Finecast(IAARGH!!) is a different material. Not to mention a 0.5mm thick sword acts differently than those 3mm fins.
Since this is my first (big) FW Model I am currently not too sure how to straighten them out for a nice fit.
Heat obviously is the solution, but what is too much? Warm water, boiling water, the hairdryer again?
Can I put the fins between 2 heavy objects, like say, books, to get a good straight part or would this squash some of the fine details?
They're not bent by much, but it is noticeable and would look awkward when assembled.

Is it plastic, or is it resin?
I have had a hard time dealing with warped resin models in the past, the material never really seems to want to move once it's been cast.
Have you called FW about it? Do they have any opinions?

It's the full resin kit:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space-Marine-Support/DREADNOUGHT-DROP-POD.html
I've no idea how to bend "true" resin. In their FAQ they suggest bending it with heat, but a lack of experience, a costly model and FW shipping times for replacements made me go here and ask first
But you're right, my best bet would probably be to snap a pic and mail FW about how to proceed.

hot water works well. Just heat it up a little at a time until you can straighten it out.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!) |

Yep, warm it up - hot water or a hairdryer (keep the hair dryer moving over the whole of the part). I personally would suggest a large pot of warm water. More even heat.

Cheers, worked like a charm.
But those resin kits really are a pain to assemble.. The bottom plate didn't fit to the inner bottom plate at ALL. Even heating and pressing them together with some fileing of the edges didn't create any sufficient contact points. I wonder what will happen tomorrow after the Milliput that I used for contact did cure..
Alright guys, I might need some help...
After straightening the fins and greenstuffing some contact between the bottom plates, I glued the fins to the engine (fins not yet glued to the pod) and did a dry fit... I... am not too happy with this.
It shouldn't be a problem once deployed, but the doors are doing anything else but sit flush. Some pushing and it works fine, so there is wiggle room. This kit is simple to assemble, so I'm pretty sure I didn'T do anything wrong here.. yet. I'd wager some strong magnets could keep the doors tight, but there is not enough space for even a 3mm magnet on the contact point on the inside... Tips? :/

Main tip - remember that in game and for display it's most likely going to be open.
Are you sure the doors aren't warped? They may need heating to get everything to fit.
Otherwise it's going to be a case of figuring out what's blocking the movement and adjusting the door appropriately.

True. Still, I try to strife to make my models as good as I can, and this is just bugging me
Some scraping and some heating later it closed just fine - after which I went to GS some gaps (something I do the first time, too). After having done that, I noticed it just went back to it's old form on one door... This thing hates me. Now I have to wait for the GS to cure before I can heat it again. Hrmpf.

One step to remember with hot water baths is to have a bowl of ice water handy. Submerge the piece in the hot/boiling water until pliable, quickly place it to get the right positioning/shape, then submerge the whole thing in the ice water. The ice water "resolidifies" the plastic into the new shape before it has a chace to go back to the warped shape. It may take 2-3 baths before it retains the new shape (especially with the thick plastic of the Lucius), but it should do the trick.
