Got 5 club members together a couple weeks ago to play Warpath 1.0. It's my favorite way to have massive battles with the 40k armies now that I no longer play 40k. Of course we couldn't stop there so my buddy wrote up some nice rules for Titans and Superheavies that I think fit the streamlined nature of 1.0 very well. The full battle report, my feelings about Warpath 1.0 for apocalypse sized games and our rules for Titans and Superheavies are all here:

Any reason you chose Warpath 1.0 over 2.0?

2 reasons.
First, Warpath 1.0 is more streamlined than 2.0 and designed for bigger battles. It's basically Kings of War with a few sci-fi bits bolted on. I almost always go with the simple rulesets when possible. Like KoW, you really need a good sized army 1200+ points to have enough units for a tactically interesting game. This is not a problem for us since many of us have big 40k armies

Secondly, it's a ruleset we have some experience with. Though only a few of us have played Warpath 1.0, most have played multiple games of KoW, so it's something the club can get right into without too much learning and book-flipping.
