Hey guys!

I've posted stuff in the past but I've been working a lot on my force. I have a ton of stuff to show you guys but I wanted to give you sample of the work I've been doing. Sorry for the bad photos, and the model has not been varnished yet, but just a few minutes ago I finished up my captain. I have a whole command squad that's almost done to show off with him and a ton of tacticals. A little bit of a disclaimer, I didn't notice a few mold lines before I had started painting, so I tried to remedy the situation as best I could without having to redo the whole thing.

here ya go!

What ya think?

Chaplain, apothecary, and champion are my faves.

Sweet job on the yellow.

My only issue is that it seems the gold clashes with the yellow

on Octavian.

I recommend that you highlight the gold with Auric maybe, and

give it an agrax wash for more depth. Just my 2 cents though.

Yea it's the lighting unfortunately. I highlighted with auric and also runefang steal on the edges. In person it's a lot better. tomorrow during the day I'm going to take a ton of better photos of the full force as of yet.

Nice work. Are you thinking of converting a Chaplain so it looks like he is taking the Captain's vow before the battle?

WOW! good idea! I didn't even think of that, it would be so sick! I could have him look like hes holding out a long blade and knighting him or something. I really hope people don't get neck cramps after looking at my photos hahaha

Man, that mould line really ruins the second pic for me :( It's all I can see, luckily it's not so obvious in other pictures.

Your yellows are great, and the pose for the captain - fantastic!
Really like the halved scheme on the champion's shield

More please

I love how well the models are painted, but if I'm not mistaken, the II on the captain's shoulder and loin would be representing the second legion (Expunged) rather than the 11th, Imperial fists (Assuming you intended it to be maintaining the theme of Roman Numerals that is done by space marines).

Other than that, these are really well painted, I really like the contrast on the veteran's shield too.

The II on the Deathwatch shoulder pad could be in relation to the Captain's presence in two notable engagements/two decisive actions/two secondments to the Deathwatch. The same idea with his loin cloth. It could represent two command positions/two honorable actions/two times serving as Champion/two duels against notable enemies.

There is so much more that the II could mean other than the Second Legion.

I like the kneeling chaplain space marine.

But the writings on the purity seals is too straight, add some curves (to simulate p,l,q... letters)

Wow, really loved seeing these pictures! I chuckled at the writing on the missile launcher.

How did you achieve the yellow? How did you line the details? I've very lightly dabbled in yellow painting and an all-over sepia wash is what I use for lining the details.

What are you working on next?

The mold lines have got to go. They detract greatly from an otherwise lovely tabletop paint job.

I know cleaning them can be tedious, but they are the single greatest killer of good painting after people not thinning their paints. 3rd would be drilling barrels on guns, so look towards that as well.

Props on getting a decent yellow, it's my single most painful color to paint.

Thank you guys for the honest comments. I really do enjoy the criticism, it helps me improve. I know the mold lines can be an eye ache, so I'm going to do my best to clean the models better. I thought i was doing a good job in the first place, it's the few that slip my sight and i don't realize until its kind of too late. Personally, the mold lines don't bother me as much as some. They are models, but I want everyone to enjoy them, so again I'm going to take the extra time to remove them all if possible.

As far as drilling the barrels, I would love to. Problem is I hate the idea of having to goback, redrill all these marines and repainting/ revarnishing. I should have started doing that from the start, but I lacked the tools to do it at the time. I also don't want half of my marines with it, and half without it. So I have to really think about that one.

To answer your question Zambro, I also used seraphim sepia to shade. Some call it "Pin Washing", i use a fine detail brush and carefully ink every crevice. Probably the hardest part to accomplish. I aim for 0% touch up (literally).

Also, the mold lines on the older space marine sets, like the command squad that I used for some here, The details and leg detail are more flat and undefined Ive noticed. I really don't like it at all. I'm almost tempted to use the newest space marine tactical squad for every unit in my army because the details are a lot deeper for the shade and ink to sink into. And, in the old box sets, the mold lines are a lot bigger and more noticeable. Might be part of the issue.

Thanks again guys, next up is another tactical squad, centurion devs, and then vehicles! I just started painting again a few months ago after a 13+ year break( I was like 14 then) , so vehicles are going to be a new experience for me.

Do you use an airbrush?

If not, doing yellows on vehicles will be... an experiance.
(And by experiance, I mean a pain in the a)

Your models are beautiful, awesome work.

As a persona preference, they would reach an even higher level of awesome if you'd use weathering. I've always thought that the Imperial Fists color scheme screams for weathering.
