Hey, looking for suggestions on how I can improve the paint job on the First Captain here. I really would like for him to look as awesome as the Forgeworld pictures. I have used most of the tricks I know so far (oil washes, streaky effects paint, pigments) but any suggestions on how I can add pop or further improve the paintjob would be good.

I still need to add a big more grime to his chestplate and arms and his scythe needs a bit of work and his eye slit needs tidying up but other than that im not sure what to do.

All comments welcome, thanks.

Looks fine for table top. If you really want him to stand out I'd recommend increasing the contrast between areas that are the same brightness or darkness. His shoulders and left arm are a place where you could do that. Create shadows for all those forge world nuts and bolt on the metallic rim of the breastplate

Its ok for Table top for sure.

But if you want it to look like the Forgeworld one, you need to dial down the grim a bit and clean him up (which is weird for nurgle )
The forgeworld one is fairly bright, mostly the base cream and lightly chipped all over the place rather than spewing grim from the recesses.

Thanks for the tips. Think I will go back in and do some more work on his left arm. Do some edge highlighting and blacklining to give it a bit more pop. Also as you say pick out the rivets on the bronze more (probably go back in with the black oil paints for that).

"This is fine for tabletop" My god, this is amazing :V

I really love the chipping effect and the grime, it gives a good feeling and is excellently done. I say leave it how it is, it's sure to impress anyone who fights it, however I have no tips for how to get it like forgeworld's.

Somewhere in south-central England.

It's got a lot more detail than I would bother to put in for tabletop, that's for sure, though of course it is often worth putting in more time on HQ units.

"Pop" comes from contrast of colour and tone, so you should as advised above do some more edge highlighting in the areas that currently are mostly dark.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

This is the final paintjob, spent a day doing edge highlights, chipping up the green, doing some more detailed wood patterns and bringing out the shadows in the rivets etc. Thanks all for the feedback.

Its look very awesome.

looks like some clean up work left on the underside of the back. (Second picture, looks like spray splatter)

The crackle chipping on the leg is awesome.
