Hey guys

Its been a long while since I decided to undertake the beginnings of a new army, the last time being imperial guard just before the 5th Edition codex was released.
I have a heap of free time till the beginning of march when work kicks back into gear so I plan to use as much of this free time finally beginning (and hopefully completing) a new army given I lack a playable one currently.

I've been a huge fan of the Anphelion Project ever since reading Imperial Armour 4 when it was released and I feel the concept of a doomed search and recovery mission really captured the vibe of 40k as it should be with lots of Tyranids, Space Marines. Imperial guard, the Inquisition as well as a little bit of betrayal. Also Originally being a guard player I thought Drop Troops would be a fun, themed and challenging army to play, but lacking the funds as well as the book being outdated for a while I had to bide my time before I could consider building an army.

I've been buying a few units over the last year and the re-release of IA 4 last year has allowed me to finally begin this project, having decided upon an army list after hours of planning and buying almost every squad I need, bar a Valkyrie or two. I plan to make a 1000 point Detachment D-99 army using the IA 4 rules, essentially making one of the three D-99 Platoons that were deployed to the surface of Beta Anphelion IV as well as Lok and his retinue and Major Durra's command Squad. All up Roughly a total of 40 men or so as each platoon consisted of a maximum of 3 13 men squads plus their HQ.

In addition to fill out 500 or so points that I will need for larger battles I will also finishing up a sizable Deathwatch Kill Team to ally with using the Space Marine codex, as I feel it fits the theme of a Ordo Xenos special task force very nicely.

As well this I will include a few side projects too, mainly updating some of my old Cadian's into a 1500 mech-vet list and painting a few Tyranid units just for fun to break up spouts of boredom that painting a guard army will predictably entails. I also have a sizable force of Red Scorpions sitting in storage waiting to be built (about 2000 points) but I'm still missing a few components to start that project just yet. So eventually I will end up with all the forces that were present during the mission, which should make for some fun game play.

I'll be trying to document the making of as much of this as possible as I've usually lacked the focus to fully complete a project up till now, but I'm really hoping that this log will give me some real drive to push through and get most of this done.

To start off with here is my 1000 point army list for the pile of Elysian gear I have and my current hobby space.

This looks like an interesting, resin heavy, project

Imperial Armor 4 v2 was my first Forge World book, and I must say I was massively impressed with the whole volume. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Just a Quick update of the first half of my Deathwatch Kill Team I started painting two weeks ago, I'm making a ten man squad and plan to run them using Sternguard Veteran rules equipped with two Combi-plasmas, a Heavy Flamer and a Heavy bolter as they are fairly typical weapons of the deathwatch. I've used the four Tyrannic War Veteran models for half the squad along with the plastic Sternguard kit while the Sergeant is an old Black Templar miniature. All their shoulder pads have been replaced with the metal deathwatch ones on the right and a variety of Chapter specific ones on the left.

Along with this I also washed up all the D-99 Components in a tub of warm water mixed with double strength detergent to remove the FW resin release agent.

It has also just occurred to me that I am going to have to radically improve my picture quality before I start getting into the real stuff, as it seems my old mobile isn't going to cut it.

Its a start I guess

Been busy the last two days, cleaned up all the mold lines on all the parts and cut off all the pouring blocks and broken the parts down into the squads I need to make. All up thats taken the better part of 6 hours I'd say.

As well as that I decided to make a Major Durra Conversion given he has no model, little bit of a challenge due to my limited amount of Elysian bits available. I made the Heavy Chainsaw using the old chainsaw from the running metal commissar, I used a heavy weapons backpack to bulk him up and make him look the part of a hardened veteran, I plan to use the Cultist Champion Shotgun to strap to the side of his backpack to round out his wargear.

I've also decided to use a few old metal guard models to round out some of the units in my army that I don't have Elysian parts for such as Catachan Heavy Flamers and 'Fingers' from the last chancers box set as my Command Squads medic

My next step will be to start basing the entire army, I plan to stick to the same basing theme that the rest of my guard use, a dark gray urban rubble theme with broken metal grates, I might also see what adding some vines in would look like, some other basing ideas would be good too, not 100% sure what I'm going to go with yet

All the metal models I plan to fill out the ranks with. Fingers (crouching guy with lasgun) as my HQ medic, Greese Monkey (Bolt Pistol) will probally be used as a Veteran Squad Sergent, the two tank crewmen will be the Cyclops Demolition team opperators and the Catahans will be used in Vet Squads to fill up the numbers I'm lacking especially as there are no Heavy flamer models in the Elysian range.
