Subject: A new Warband rises: The Ghost Eyes (WIP)
In the dark tunnels of a smoking Forge World, three leaders make a pact that will see the creation of a new Warband, the Ghost Eyes. A mix of Dark Mechanicus, Chaos Space Marine, and converted Skaven Space Marines.
Here's the story thus far for those that care to read about it:
Spoiler:
The Ghost Eyes- Chaos Marine Chapter (Ultramarine Progenitor)
Typical Strength - Company level element worth of Marines that work alongside a fair number of cultists
Founded - 35th Millennium as a defense force for a new Adeptus Mechanicus Forge World.
Turned to Chaos: 36th Millennium
Homeworld: ????(planet) - Ultima Segmentum - ???(sector) - ???(subsector) - ???(system)
Were a once loyal Space Marine Chapter that fell to Chaos through the lure of the dark arts and ancient knowledge. First studied the dark arts, making deals with the xenos of the planet (Skaven), thinking they could hide and control their activities until they were discovered and rendered Excommunicatus, including the Mechanicus Cult they were protecting. They are Fanatic in their worship of Tzeentch and believe in tearing down the Corpse Emperor’s reign, even using alien magics to do so. They don't mind working along side xenos as long as it benefits them. Their captains and leaders are prone to bodily transformations, and the whole Chapter has a loose definition of sanity. Many of the members that commit deeds that please Tzeentch will receive mutations that heighten and strengthen their bodies and senses. They are not unknown to the Changer of Ways, and regularly garner his attention and blessings.
To maintain strength the band raids for gene-seed, impressionable youth, and is open to welcoming those fleeing the Imperium. They also work closely with the Dark Mechanicus cult on their world, giving them alien artifacts and services in exchange for recruits and armour. Another race of Chaos worshipers inhabit the Forge World, the Skaven, and they will gladly trade rat-power and warpstone for advanced armour and weapons. The three groups have made a symbiotic relationship, using the expanding Forge World as a home planet while the orbiting space hulk acts as a mercenary encampment, always ready and thirsting for salvage and war. Some portions are shielded and pressurized for cultists and ratmen, but the majority is an airless mess of meteor and spaceship debris.
The Chapter Master is a Sorcerer Lord who is known for killing the Inquisition officer who instigated the investigation into their activities, turning him into a Servitor. The Inquisition has never forgiven them for this treachery, and were denied retribution when the Storm of the Emperor's Wrath erupted, bathing the world in its glow and occasionally its Warp Energies. Their favourite method of deployment is by drop-pod or jumping from gunships, quickly obtaining their objective and disappearing as fast as they arrive. They also make heavy use of Warp Claws and Raptors.
Due to the fact they have an excellent relationship with the Dark Mechanicus, many of the band have upgraded and highly powered armour.
Their Chapter Name is derived from the Clan name of the Skaven Clan that ruled the world at the time of the seeding of the Forge World.

I am in this mostly for the Painting and Modeling aspects of the hobby, as well as that great grimdark story, so this is definitely not a WYSIWYG army by any stretch of the imagination. I'm just gonna have some fun dragging my favourite WHFB army into the 41st Millennium!
First I warm up with some standard Chaos Marines to get back in the swing of things:
This is the CSM Heavy Bolter Marine I chose as a test model, just to see how the colours worked together. This is Army Painter Alien Purple with Hydra Turquoise. I found the trim to be a little dull, so I mixed some AP Shining Silver in to get it to really pop and shine. The Bolter is just a plain Gunmetal grey for the test.
With the colour scheme sorted out, its time to get assembling!
Nothing too crazy right away, though I am kinda proud of the Standard Bearer's mutated chainsword arm

A wash was planned, for sure. That model is far from complete, I just slapped down some quick colour to see if it looked weird on the model before committing to it.
The base colour is a spray-on base coat that I tried out. First time that I have worked with a spray-on, so I'm still trying to get the paint thickness right.
Edit:
Did some more priming, a bit of bone detail work, as well as starting on the bases.

The Warband continues to grow! Delivery came in with a pack of CSMs and a box of WHFB Storm vermin to convert into a Troop of Skaven Marines and a Troop of Skaven Cultists. A friend also sent me some of his extra Chaos Cultists, half primed, half painted. I finally am starting to pull together an army list for this mostly fluffy endeavor
I can never stick to doing just one thing at a time, so I'm glad I have enough models to have some at every stage of assembly and painting....gives me a choice of what I feel like working on.
Next up, assembling some Raptors, Skaven Cultist, and Skaven Marines, painting Chaos Marines and Skaven Terminators. I also have a Ikit Claw model to convert to the 41st Millenium

Sorry for the delay, I have been trying to rig up a better lighting system, as the one I have been using obviously isn't up to snuff. Work continues, but a slower pace.
After lurking the P&M threads, it became very clear that if I was going to be doing any serious kit-bashing or conversion work that I was going to NEED green stuff and a tentacle maker (oh the rat-tails....so many tails....). One quick trip to the interwebz solved that problem for me, and now I get to work on my sculpting skills as well!
Hopefully I get my lighting situation worked out soon.
Photos inbound.....

There is more to come, but the lighting wasn't quite right, so only these ones came out looking any good. Man, its been a long time since I used my painting, and photography skills, the rust is pretty thick. I will get my brush strokes and my eye back in shape eventually. I can already start to see small improvements, thanks to practice and all of the great painting tips and inspiration of this community.
Now that my CSM squad is done, I think I will be moving on to the Skaven Termies. The idea is that the (Dark) Mechanicus and Space Marines don't give the skaven any of the good kit, just the old, broken down cast-aways and obsolete tech. Which they of course take gladly and begin to tinker and re-purpose with the help of warpstone. So I'm planning on lots of battle damage, and of course Skaven runic scratchings all over the place!
I've done a much better job with the spray-on primer, so I shouldn't lose as much detail on these guys as I did with my CSMs. Ahh well, you live and learn!
