Paint the front half (or the whole) helm with a bone color and your fluff problem is pretty much taken care of. If you're comfortable freehanding, you could also paint the skull face on the front of the helm.
Looking good so far.

That Chaplain looks really good, breaks away from the generic looking ones which is always a nice breather every now and then.

Thanks, yeah i already have the Generic in Metal, old one, badly painted i got 2nd hand. has a head that looks abit like a ork....
real shiny paint too, full blown car metalic :(
going to add a few more relics from a grey knight kit, extra purity seals and such little things.
Blade will be washed to a more rose gold.

He looks cool, but a sword? Where is the crozious? It’s both the badge of office and weapon of choice of chaplains. The lack of skulls I can deal with.
You might also want to tack on some purity seals.

I chose to vary the weapon. I know its the badge of office but I liked the great sword. I can always bodge one up, I have the parts and add it hung off his armour.
I'm going to add more seals and skulls soon, I have as grey knight kit to get some bits. Relics, skulls etc.

ok so update time. ive not done the gold blade high light along the cutting edge in pics as i was loosing the good light so i took the photo's whilst i had it. i also have more purity seals to add but im waiting until i get it glued to make the final additions. (currently white tacked)
but wash layers added, extra bits and bobs as well and some progress
i have so far used red, light, dark and blue washs on various different areas and in placed double layers of different "colours" (yes dakka im English lol) .
constructive comments welcome and yes i chose to go with the sword over the crozius despite the fluff being abit in conflict but ive made my choice and its staying even if the whole of Dakka disagrees with it

Now he certainly looks quite intimidating with bone helm half applied, he looks more eerie looking with the bone helm (not sure why all Chaplains look this eerie when not in use)
Them seals look pretty decent as well, could try adding some faint markings on them as if was written or symbol onto to show what he accomplished in his previous battles.

yep it took a while its Ushanti Bone, then screaming skull and army painter white with a final layer of army painter soft tone. Darker bone colour was way too dark but black is not a easy colour to paint over at times.
it was interesting if not abit difficult when the heads already glued on....
i have one good one thats flapping in the breze in a way so mounting that on the back of the jump pack.
though all in he will be a pain to transport anywhere. he's getting a little tub of his own me thinks

Interesting take.. I approve. I think he needs the chaplain mace somewhere though just so you definately know thats his position. Also, is the sword finished because it looks bronze.. Is it supposed to be gold?

If my battery survives I hope this message is sent.
I have added a gold high light on cutting edges in bright gold and its more a rose gold in real life.
Still wip so any ideas I'll take in consideration.
I have a old metal tigres\liberian to cut up so see what I can do as well as a growing bitz box.
Think I can scratch up a mace or such.

so now i finaly found the old lump of GW metal that its attached too i have this. what i have is a chipped, bent and slathered in dark angels paint work. its minus its hand and book, the staff head is broken off and that was what i was considering only downside all in it is lititarrly the size of a space marine upper body....
i could replace the top skull with this but what do people think?
sorry i don't have a camera handy so i used this pic off a auction site of the model.
to conflirm the part in question is the aqulla staff end down to the power cable joint. however i can add or trim the part within my skills.

That could work if you converted him into a Chaplain as well, be tricky to carve enough out of the area where a skull style helm would go since its pewter metal your cutting through so would be a challenge with fully clearing it
But give it a go I say!

So finally updates.
little different to carving, but you can see where the bits came in.
still not finished i admit, but getting there. i need to add soem more tiny highlights to the upper skull, maybe a extra purity seal and such. sword has been made less bronze and more gold looking and the eagle should leave no question as to the units identity.
base is started, the legs will be set back abit so the models middle and main weight is placed over the centre of the base, and weighted there so should be 100% stable despite the leaning forward pose,

not sure what m giving him, but i felt the sword was a better CCW, more reach and better balance than the crozius even if it lacks some of the bite.
but it feels more right for a Templer.
still not perfect, but im liking how its going.
Added some dirt to his boots and lower legs, going to add few highlights in places and get the weights glued in so that its perfectly level despite its higher center of gravity. the metal eagle does not help things!
Automatically Appended Next Post: given this is the first real Kitbashed semi conversion ive done im pretty happy.
i believe he is the sum parts of 8-9 Kits, models and such from Grey knights, to Marines and imperial Guard.

Very nice conversion work there for a first time kit bashing He has really come out looking in mid combat with that dust effect over his boots and shin armour.
wonder if in future you'd attempt an squad sized conversion kit bash for your Black Templars?

If I add it up this model is
Grey knights pa set
Vanguard vets
Sternguard vets
Assault marines
Tactical sqaud
Old metal Liberian
Razorback
Impirial guard tank track
Sprue
I'm planning a honour guard but will need few more bitz in prices first.
