Hi, so my other half has lots of warhammer and ive been watching and decided to get involved as well, l chose the high elves at the moment as lm not playing just painting etc
I also like all the bigish models of beats and animals.
I did the eagle first and then went onto the elves themselves, found them a little tricky and there not quite finished as l need to do some washes etc.
But just wondered what people though any advice etc.

That eagle is sweet! Really good job.
In general you can paint stuff to look "natural" or more "cartoony". The cartoony models tend to look better on the board. Your eagle, I would say, is very naturally looking... which I prefer myself. This will be harder with your elves as they have bright colors n stuff like that.
I assume you washed then drybrushed the eagle? That will also be a bit more difficult on the elves. It will work well for the hair and feathers (and possibly the bumpy armor) but smooth areas is trickier. If you want to take your time, you mix colors from dark and just work yourself to lighter shades.

Hi Thanks, means a lot. Yes l washed and then drybrushed with the help from my other half. My 2nd eagle didnt come out anywhere as good hence why its not on here l couldnt get the same face on it and it just looks awful! I havent washed all drybrushed the elves but l am going to. I put these pics on facebook and was told l hadnt used enough colours on the elves, is this right as l was just following the colours on the box lol Or is it because l havent done the drybrushing etc.

Fantastic job on the Eagle. I really like.
As for the troops, the paint job is very monotone color doesnt look like there is any shading, the color of the horse seems off and looks like it wasnt painted.
Id recommend blending a darker shade of yellow or get washes for a quick fix.

Wow! Seriously your fist models! I'm jealous.
The eagle is a great job, not much I can say about that.
The elves are nice and neat, which is always a great starting pint. From there try experimenting with washes as an easy way to show texture.
Get your black/brown/whatever paint and mix with water (there are better options) until it's like dirty water. Dab a little onto the creases and places where you want shades. Use the paintbrush to drag the fluid to the places you want it to be.
Plenty of good advice on washing around YouTube.
Well done and keep painting :-)

Very neat indeed. The eagle is sweet for a new painter's model, well done.

Very good stuff for your first few models!
The advice given in this thread is excellent, too.
