Saw this pop up tonight, surprised nobody beat me to it. I even remember to put a link to it!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/9742092/fightin-fungi-28mm-fantasy-miniatures

Fantasy mushroom men to go along with a similarly themed, Song of Blades and Heroes based rulebook.

I love the SoBH books. Love them. They play fast, the kids can get in the thick of things, and I can yank all sorts of random models from my collection onto the table.

Supposedly this new rulebook will be backward compatible with SoBH and include more detailed rulesets- armor, weapons, reactions, actual spells... sounds fun.

Plus they'll have stats for basic fantasy races, so you aren't stuck having a myconoid sporebath if you aren't interested.

Sculpts of the base 6 figures. There are also quite a few more photos of sculpts on the actual KS page.

For $40 roughly, you get the printed rules, the PDF version, RPG supplement info and art, and at the moment about 14 figures.
For $100, you get all the above stuff, but you also get every figure unlocked so far in the campaign, as well as 18 extra selections of whichever unlocked figures you like (some count as more than one choice).

You're looking at 44 figures or so as of right now!

Ganesha Games has also put up a large amount of the rulebooks they've published as $5.00 PDF files

There's some downirght funky stuff too. Absolutely ridiculous, ugly, and totally up my alley.

Here's a list of all the unlocked stretch goals and some of the ones that can still be reached:

phallic doesn't necessarily mean what you think it means... does it?

It also references to the shape, look or reference of.

I saw these on KS, but unfortunately while I love the concept and art, I'm not a fan of the sculpts at all.

At some point you are saying that anything roughly cylindrical with one end slightly larger than the other is "phallic." Although there isn't a clear line between "phallic" and "cylinder", usually before saying something is phallic there should be some sort of reference to a phallus, shape or surface detail that makes it more like that than something similar, say a mushroom or salami. Otherwise the word is sort of meaningless, given that the laws of fluid dynamics tend to make things roughly cylindrical.

I'm sure the sculpts are going to be a bit hit or miss for some, phallic or not.

I'd say at the very least the rulebook will be worth checking out, especially if you're interested in quick playing skirmish games.

These are not cylinders though.

And phallic doesn't mean cylinder = phallic.

You can make a cylinder into a phallic symbol, thus the definition of phallic.

You can see it in a lot of commercials, burger king had one recently, lot of alcohol commercials use, Sky vodka seems to love using their bottles as such. You are basically making a reference to it.

My point, which I believe you missed rather widely, is that it if the word "phallic" is to mean anything by virtue of not applying to just about anything, there have to be some limitations. It is not clear what limitations you are using to describe some things as phallic while making others not so. Perhaps if you explained your criteria some might agree with you, while others disagree with the criteria. As it stands, you have just said that to you the models evoke a phallus, which may be true, but as Alph pointed out that probably says more about you than the models given the total lack of sexual imagery, over tones or even basic similarity beyond that necessitated by the mechanics of fluid dynamics involved.

Fair enough- archers have been unlocked, with infantry up next with only 200 to go.

Cool thing is pledges of 40 and up get these figures included as well.

Spoilered so as not to disturb anyone with suspicious imagery.

Don't let the haters get you down- I thought it was pretty awkward looking, too.

On-topic, that was after I saw the concept art which I thought was pretty great. I liked the wide-brimmed caps, instead of the, uh, other ones. Also, mushrooms with pecs is a pretty disturbing image I never would have conceived of. Thanks, internet.

So as of right now, seven of the stretch goals have been unlocked, and a few more fungi have sprouted.

Amazonian fungi, which is free with the big pledges but also available as an add on.

These two, based on the creators, are available if there are 200 backers as an add on, or free if you have a big pledge. They're sitting at about 130 backers, so even if people back just for the ruleset (which is supposed to be in alpha form soon), every little bit helps.

Some of the newer stretch goals are pretty interesting too...

Also- just as a heads up, for any who are interested.

Andrea Sfiligoi, the creator of Song of Blades and Heroes (and designer for this ruleset) has offered up a sample of the rules to be downloaded for those that are interested. For those of you familiar with SoBH, there's some interesting new stuff in there- various armor rules, actual spell lists, weapon differences... it's worth a look (and a ten dollar pledge will get you the final PDF at least).

His email address is in the latest update, and he's pretty fast about getting those sent out. He had tried uploading it for everyone to download, but ran in to some technical issues.

You can find his email in update 23.
Here's a link to it.

So... this campaign has been trucking along, and just unlocked the Mushroom King.

King Shroom is supposed to be around 54mm tall, and is an $8.00 add on. He's also free at the 100 dollar Fungi King pledge.

Speaking of Fungi King pledges, 100 bucks now nets you a PDF and printed version of the rule book, a PDF for the Fungi that goes with RPG ruleset Ganesha Games makes, and close to 40 figures of various shapes and sizes, quite a few of them reaching over 40mm.

Of course, the bulk of them are fungi (naturally), but there's some interesting stuff in there. I really like this guy's sculpt, because who doesn't like kung fu Shaolin mushrooms? He's also supposed to come with an extra arm holding a mace as depicted in his artwork.

And an image of the next stretch goal, because I honestly don't think anyone has bothered sculpting something like this. Spoilered because it may be sensory overload if you're looking for phallic creatures riding phallic cavalry:

I appologize and I am not trying to step on anyones like and I am sorry if I offend, but am I the only one that finds these models and model line rediculous and unoriginal. Why make zombi and vampire fungi. I mean it is a new line and one not done by many game companies... make need things and make the models look cool, not men with shrooms for heads... maybe just me...

I'd say they are pretty ridiculous. That's kind of the point I think. I totally plan on using these thing in my Kings of War nature army.

When the phallic vampiric fungus blasts your ass off the table, we'll see how ridiculous it is (very ridiculous).

Speaking of ridiculous...

This thing was just announced.

A puffball launching spore monster. Could make for a fun weapon team.

I guess the launcher is going to be a larger figure, and he's going to come with an independent puffball spore thing to hurl, or let wander around to explode.

Fun concept, and it was actually a backer who pledged to have it made. All the big pledges get one for free too!

They've also listed troop building options for those of you ridiculous enough to want to have rank and file of these little fungi.

I found a photo of the Spore Monster on Facebook today.

The fungus monk is the size of an average Bones figure from Reaper to give a sense of scale.

The thing's bizarre enough that it could probably have a lot of use outside of this mushroom range.

The campaign is only a few backers away from getting the halfling on the piggy model included, and is going to be wrapping up in just a few days.

The flying fungus (Shroom Beholder basically) has also been unlocked, and the next up is the pillbug cavalry.

This thing keeps chugging along.

The flying eyeball has been unlocked, the pillbug riders, and now this guy.

Fast attack grasshopper cavalry.

They mentioned in the comments hoping to make it possible to put the various riders on all of the bugs they've unlocked so far, but that remains to be seen. At the very least, all the mounts will be available seperately from the riders as well. Stick some chaos space marines on for hilarity to ensue! Actually, those worms as some sort of transport for Nurgle units doesn't sound that far off the mark...

Other things of interest- the halfing on a piggy goal has been met. Free for the 100 dollar pledges, also available as an add on.

Another backer designed model- an evil enoki priest. Free for the hundred dollar pledges, also available as an add on.

As well as a few new stretch goals- more (truly) rotten evil mushroom men.

Currently, without any further stretch goals, you're looking at getting at least 44+ figures (including quite a few larger pieces), a rulebook, as well as PDF supplements for the RPG game. Not a bad deal.

Supposed to clock in at 54mm. 10 dollar add on, free for Fungus King pledges ($100).

Next goal is a bit of a stretch, but this keeps on chugging along.

The Mykityad Nymph.

Also, because I like posting pictures.

Here's some new ones Andrea Sfiligoi put up on the Song of Blades and Heroes facebook page. These probably won't make it in this campaign, but you never know...
