Hi! so im new to Infinity and just bought operation icestorm. And read thru the instructions but did not really understand a few of the rules. and was wanting some clarification.
- First one is how the silhouette works. So if you cant figure out if the guy can be shot at you place the silhouette behind him and if you see his head and a little 3x3mm section (like the black square on the silhouette) then you can shoot him. Is that correct?

- The second one is about taking damage. if i get hit and then do an arm roll, i have to beat a 13 damage from a combi rifle. with say the basic troop so 1 arm. i roll a 10 + 1 (arm) makes 11. so i failed by 3 so i would take 3 damage?

- Third. the face to face rolls. say a Basic Troop A shoots Basic Troop B. Troop A gets 3 shots and rolls under his bs of lets say 13. and gets 5, 7, 10. Troop B decides to shoot back as an aro. and gets a 9. Troop B negates the 5 and 7 from A. But the 10 from A negatets B's 9. Leaving only the 10 remaining. So only 1 hit is actually done?

Sorry if the answers are in the little book and if im not clearly reading it right or something, but figured it would be easier to ask a pro who has played many many times. Thanks for the response.

HI welcome, the EI will soon convert you.

1) Pretty much. But it is any part of the silhouette not just his head, it is the 3x3mm that matters.

2) You take 1 wound only from each failed ARM save. So if you fail by 3 points you still only take 1 wound.

3) You got it, only 1 hit. Unless Troop B had BS 9 then he crit and trumps all.

Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

ah ok. So really cover and just not being seen is the best thing for this. Im a 40k guy so ive got that mindset and i think that's what is screwing with me. Any advice for new players to infinity?

Any tips?

Forget everything 40k taught you about wargames.

Positioning is key. Be mindful of your LoF (it matters in this game). Try NOT to put your back to the enemy.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Yeah im slowly trying to forget about 40k. at least while i play this. Have not had any issues with being attacked behind me. But the other guy i have been playing against is as new to it as me. So im sure there are many strategies and tactics we have yet to learn. But so far enjoying this waaay more then 40k. Its almost the exact opposite of 40k. Simple, cheap, short games. and fun! hehe well maybe not exact opposite 40k is fun too.

Definitely what Chromedog says - be mindful of your unit placing and LOF, try and think of what your opponent is likely to use against you, and have a 'counter' ready so that when they do, hopefully it won't hurt you too badly and you can respond with your own strike.

I was in a similar situation to yourself, learning the game when not really knowing what we were doing! It turned into something of an arms race, where we were both finding devious things to use from units and wargear and then springing them on each other during the game. A good example of this would be the Air Drop troops, where one with an HMG just came down and machine-gunned all of my units when they were stood facing a wall (looking the wrong way! As though they had done something naughty and were told to stand in the corner - soon learnt my lesson there!) But then when we tried it in the next game, a hacker 'iceing' the airdrop so the unfortunate drop trooper came down to early and found himself stood in front of a TAG! Hacking and immobilising a rampant Heavy Infantry (then placing a monofiliment mine next to them, "that mine won't go off unless that guy tries to reset his armour.. ") etc. etc.

But it's a great experience finding your way through the game, think the N3 rules are certainly a lot better organised/written than previous edition as well so you've come into the game at a great time.
