I know they have the shades specifically for modeling now, but I already have the polyshades, and thought I would save a bit of money, and I like that it makes the models alot more chip resistant, but its hard to not mess up a vehicle. Is there a better alternative out there now?

Man, yellow is tough enough, I'd be really afraid to dip them. I hope you have some test models hah.

The Antique Walnut may be a bit dark for Imperial Fists, unless you want the darker color. You would probably want something closer to the Quickshade Soft Tone, but I don't know the exact Minwax match for that.

I'd thin it with spirits and brush it on. Are you going for a dirtier paintjob?

yes, sort of a "traveled and well worn" armor look. Not a fan of prestine condition armor and vehicles.

Pecan is indeed the Minwax equivalent of Soft Tone, if you want to give that a try.
I will say, though, that your test model took a very heavy coat of the walnut. Experimenting with the application a bit may do as much to change the result as switching to a different shade. I brushed Tudor Satin over some yellow-armored Veermyn and they didn't turn out nearly as dark and dirty.

The helmet has painted on scratches and battle damage. You cant see it in the pic, but its mostly exposed boltgun metal. So its not a giant drop of it on his head or anything.

I would use a light coating and do a lot of battle damage. Overall, I don't see space marines as good candidates for the dip.

I have put the marines in and spun 90 percent of it off. If I mix a 50/50 batch of minwax polyshades pecan with mineral spirits, would that be a decent wash. I need to figure out how to do the vehicles.
