I've just received a fantastic model through the post. At first I thought this can't be the model I ordered... Its far far to heavy, it was and its bigger than I could have ever expected.

Apparently the model was bought 10 years ago from a guy who was trying to get into making resin kits. I must say its truly amazing, I believe the size means its easier to add these details, but also it must be hard to fill it and make everything look good.

So, does anybody recognise him at all?

Another thought/fear is how on earth do you approach painting something this big, I'm stumped... I'm thinking eyes closed and just go for it.

That is one giant Chaplain. I can't say I've ever seen anything like it, but it's pretty cool.

The pictures were fine the way they were, considering how well they showed off the phenomenal detail on that model.

If the story you told is accurate, it could be a garage kit that someone made. Though, I will say that the detail on it is pretty damn good for a garage kit (the inside of the pauldron is awesome!). My other thought is that it is something Forge World made, but that doesn't look like their resin. I have to ask: where did you find it? Also, what size is it? 1/6 or 1/12 scale?

I thought the size was fine, but I still spent the time to repost and make everything lovely!

Well this is what the seller had to say about it:
"This was bought over ten years ago from a small garage kit dealer at a UK Memorabilia show at the NEC in Birmingham. The guy had just started in the kit creation business and this was his first kit he was trying to sell. I believe only around 50 of these kits were ever made and I can't for the life of me remember who the sculptor was or the name of his company. Suffice to say I was blown away when I saw it and had to have it, due to the sheer detail and beautifully clean quality of the casting. I've not seen much better since!"

So apparently NEC... Same venue, but not the same show

I found it on eBay for cheap IMO and just thought screw it... I'll buy it, never seen one like it. However I had no idea it was massive, I assumed it was like any other FW resin kit. When I got the box I thought it was a completely different order.

I am thanking the seller for the amazing job he did packing and just for selling it to me

Have you counted the skulls? It's important that I know how many skulls are on that model.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

Definitely has the clunky (or "characterful," depending on your tastes), old school look, but the detail and casting quality really are impressive. I'm all about the newer grimdark style, but even I would love to have something like this.

If you don't mind my asking, how much did you end up paying? A good price is relative to the value of the thing - half of the list price is a steal, but if we're talking yachts, that's still out of most folks' reach... The most comparable point of reference I have is the FW large-scale marine, but I believe that's a decent bit smaller than this guy.

Pretty sure its based on the BA Chaplian

Do you really want me to count the skulls lol

IMO I got the model for a bargain price £125. Good thing too as I couldn't have afforded to pay much more for it. But I had to have it.

I'm still super curious who the heck made it and how much the list price was. Considering the Space Marine by FW is £101 I think this guy was well well well... well worth the price I paid.

That's about what I thought and I completely agree. For what you got, £25 over the FW model is more than fair - the grand total is not an amount to sneeze at, but I'd still call it a steal. As models go, this is the equivalent of a yacht, after all.

It's one of a range of 2-3 I think. Early Forgeorld perhaps. I recall seeing several for sale at an event 10 years ago or so and there were several varients bit all were a little smaller than the standard FWB marine. Forgeorld used to do lots of larger figures, I always wanted the 80mm temple guard lizard man.

Amazing skills he has...

I am shocked and stunned, I am also curious about the weathered effect and am wondering if I would want to go down that road.

I was thinking, for sure I wouldn't but after following the thread I must say the end product is hugely pleasing.

Maybe a model this size if you want it it can't be clean...? Thoughts?

So you think there were other models in a similar vein? Thats very interesting indeed. Also, I don't think this can be FW its about 3x the size of the FWB marine.

Let me know if you are interested in selling that BA Chaplain. Quite a find man! Sell or trade...

And yes, now that you've post the picture of all those unfinished models/busts, you are going to have to make a thread and get to painting Sir!

hutber - the resin figures I was describing appear to be in your pic, one has a chainsword, the other an axe. It doesn't seem easy to find much about them online. I only saw them for sale once.

This is solely based on the color of the resin and what I know of the old eldar phantom kit...is there any way that could be an old armorcast kit?

Armorcast never did anything with that level of detail or that level of coolness.

Ye the resin does look and feel a lot more dense than that of FW the thing weighs a flippin tone. Although some of the AC stuff I did actually like, it was very bland overall.

-Keylly502 this would be painful for me to do that just now I did just get the guy. I don't think I'd ever sell him either, a trade would be the only option I think.

So I've had some info, apparently it was made by this company:

http://www.antsnest.net/Garage/Shows/Memro99Mar.php

If you scroll down you'll see the one line information and photo on him:

"Blood Angel Chaplain is Creative Casting's latest offering - an huge piece of cold cast resin with an obscene amount of detail almost 2 feet tall and weighing in at over 15 lbs!!."

This is what pointed me to the companies website, translated from a French post:
I present to you the most beautiful part of my collection.
I discovered this statue on an English White Dwarf. It was offered to the GW store occasaion the opening of the 30th 25em or GW UK store to 1995-1996.
This model (thus limited to 25-30 copies) is EXTREMELY detailed! It was carved by a company called Creative Castings called Expired which it seems to me a company special ffects and decorative objects for the TV-movie ..
It measures 35cm tall when measured helmet and 49cm at the top of crosius (27.5cm for the statue against Abaddon Forge World). It weighs 5.6kg and e nrésine !!!
You recognized it was designed according to the cover of the old codex 'Angels of Death'.
do not ask me "When are you going to paint it?" because I have no time and I expect to control better.
plièce is my ultimate collec even some members of the GW staff did not know about it !!!

I would really love to know which white dwarf it was on. I assume there is somewhere which lists all the magazines and maybe their covers?

Next step.. I just got an "study" We all need something to aim for.

Agreed though, keep him.

I've had the offer to recast him... The idea scares me in so many ways. Although the benefit would be to I could paint the recast keep the original. But the disadvantages to me outweight this benifit...
