Ok. So I got the color I wanted on these Spirit Hosts but all the gradient I did was lost due to overzealous airbrushing of the midtones. I know I need to add light blue and white here. I tried drybrushing white on aggressively and it helped but not nearly enough.
Any thoughts? Do I simply air brush more light blue and white to the ends of the ghosts? Or should I try washing them with really thinned down white? My wife says they look great in person but are far too solid and bold to be ghost looking....lol

Have you considered using a really bold green instead of white?

Use that OVER the blue? I'll admit, I have three strong colors going in this piece. Blues, greens in the Fulcrum vortex and on top (out of picture) is a bold pink/purple scheme.
so maybe like a Livery Green over the blue? Washed or airbrushed? Automatically Appended Next Post: And in case you are wondering, I still need to edge line, do the bases and skeletons, also the daggers

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

Yes and no. Certainly, go for thinned down white or light green paint (I'd go green, to tie them to the Vortex), but don't apply it like a wash to the recesses. Instead, paint it in thin, almost transparent layers ver the raised areas. This will tint rather than cover the blue, and the more layers you apply, the stronger the green. So you can get a good blue-green transition just by doing a handful of very thin layers one after the other, getting narrower each time.

Ok...I seriously love that idea! I have several Vallejo Game Air greens that are strikingly bright. Thin layers, multiple, tint...got it.
Now I need to come up with a reason to leave the office so I can go home and paint... lol.....

I don't have that glaze but I could easily pick it up down the street here. I'm lucky to have multiple game stores that carry just about everything I could imagine.
I like incorporating the green more. I think fading in a strong white to the tips and faces would help it "pop" a bit more as well. Thanks for the suggestions thus far!!!!
Here is the whole piece WIP. Obviously, edge lining, ground cover, etc still need done. I just needed to get this thing tied together. I know it's bold and a lot of color but it's Warhammer and wanted to go for eye catching... Automatically Appended Next Post: (clicking on the photo will right it so it's not rotated)

I wouldn't go with a glaze/wash straight out of the pot, but rather I would make my own.
Warpstone Glow, Moot Green, or Sybarite Green would (in my opinion) be best to go with.

The colors I used for the Vortex are
Vallejo Game Air - Livery Green
Vallejo Game Air - Goblin Green
Vallejo Game Color - Esporpena Green
Maybe I should make thin layers with those or make a glaze or wash from it?

Possibly.
I've not really had a whole hell of a lot of success making washes from the Vallejo Air line...but also I use Model Air rather than Game Air so that might be the difference?

The thin paint/glaze idea is starting to sound right.
And making washes from Game Air, I've not tried it either. I have paints from all of Vallejo lines (VMC, VGC, VMA, VGA, Panzer Aces, etc). I've accidentally made washes from thinning too much if that counts..lol
Worst case scenario is DOT3 Brake Fluid and start over

Thin them with water or medium and you should be ok. You will need to experiment with the thickness as ideally you want something thin enough to see through but not so thin it will run (as you want it on the tips, not the recesses.
For what it's worth, I'd suggest doing the same on the edges of the flames on the vortex, it will create a visual link between that and the spirits as if they have broken away from it but still came from there (I assume that is the effect you're going for?)

I think trying the idea idea of thin multiple layers of Livery Green would be a good start....... Automatically Appended Next Post: Paradigm, correct. That is the effect desired. Tie them in and also make the Spirit Hosts look more "ghostly" and not like a solid cartoon Automatically Appended Next Post: Any other suggestions for the rest of the piece are of course welcome as well

I agree there......white needs added to a good portion of this entire piece. I am grabbing Vallejo Transparent green on the way home. Also going to try a different white for airbrushing. The Vallejo Air lines are great paints but for some reason the white is spattering quite badly.

Vallejo Transparent Green and Model Color White(thinned down quite a bit). Back on the right path here! Thanks everyone for the help!
My iPhone camera is simply not picking up true colors and the bright whites, but trust me, your suggestions made a massive difference. More work tonight on the vortex and ground cover!
