These drool-inducing photos came from a nearly decade-old edition of White Dwarf. A French artist named Bruno Rizzo did this:

I'm a tabletop level painter, truly a beginner as far as the hobby side goes. How can a novice like me accomplish this? It doesn't look airbrushed; and it was before GW released texture paints so I feel like I can at least create a poor-man's version: with your help!

So, how do I accomplish this? What are the steps? Which colors, when? How thick/thin?

I really appreciate it!

some of it is clearly stippled on. for this you can use knackered old brushes, or rough torn up packing sponge. the chipping on the armour edges looks like it was regularly painted on. just use a thin brush to apply small amounts of the metal colour that would be under the paint, and then put a tiny darker outline to give it depth. the streaks also look painted on. grab a pot of your favourite grime/rust colour, thin it down a bit then paint streaks from rivets, armour joins and contours etc.

yeah that will give you the basic scheme. for the dirt and corrosion, maybe stormvermin fur, and mournfang brown, colours like that, then for the rust streaks, invest in a couple of different rust powders.
