So I've been playing WH40k for 6 months or so and I finally decided to go for my own SM Chapter vs going Black Templar. Now as I begin the challenge of figuring out all the info about my Chapter I am trying to figure out the color scheme of the army. I figured I am going to base it off of my favorite fighting force ever on this lovely Earth. The Takeda Clan of feudal Japan. Most importantly based on Takeda Shingen during his time as daimyo. I am here to ask dakkadakka on their opinion on color schemes based on photos I am going to upload of armors and SM Painter examples. Also any bits you think would be awesome to add to them. (Debating on some Forge World MK IV heads if I can find them since they do not sell them by themselves lol). I will definitely need advice on the color of their lenses though.

^ Tactical Marine for the Chapter Core (Evil Sunz Scarlet, Gehenna's Gold, Chaos Black, and Warpstone Glow paints)

Next will be the Chapter Masters armor which I am having issues thinking it looks anywhere decent compare to the actual armor lol (Gehenna's Gold, Abaddon Black, and Iron Breaker paints)

Also not sure what I am going to do with the other types of Infantry. If i'm just going to go with the same color scheme as above or go a BA route and change their helmets depending on what they are.

Also the left shoulder pad will have their symbol on it.

Also not too sure on what the Company Markings will look like for the right shoulder pad.

Speaking of samurai aesthetics, Kromlech has an awesome range of bits you might be interested in:

Looks like they also have a few torsos and other bits you could make use of. In general, I think throwing some katana-like power swords or naginatas would be pretty cool. Very neat idea with the specific clan and color scheme to match though, I love an army with backstory and depth.

Yea I figured if I'm going Space Marines I might as well make my own chapter so I can use any CT I want without "that guy" raging I'm using Ultramarine Chapter Tactics while using Black Templar models. This also helps with the color scheme I want to use by basing them off of the Takeda Clans armors

Makes sense, being flexible with CT will make your games more varied and fun too. Just make sure to stay away from blood drop motifs, or people might accuse you of being a blood angels player with those colors

Guess you can also use oni masks for your marines if you want:

As for other bits you may want to check out Wargames Factory on their plastic feudal Japan models. They're cheap and if you're going to butcher them anyway for bits, I think they're a good source.

I would use red as my primary colour for takeda.

Maybe order some Sashimono for the space marines. Perry Sell them or you can order the bits from Wargames factory online.

Here are some Takeda decals

Takeda Shingens armor is gold with a silver chest piece...the normal space marines - Captains will have the red armor but my Chapter Master was going to resemble Shingens armor the best I could

Yeah I think that works well.

Might be cool to do the top of the helmet white like the hair on shingens. See how it turns out.

These might be cool for a few officers, probably too pricey for an entire army though.

IMO, the Puppetswar heads are far and away the best of the bunch out there. I have 2x10 man "Samurai" Astartes that are in the process of being built. My build right now is...

Anvil Industries robed legs and various torsos
Puppets War heads and shoulderpads
Kromlech pack/banners and power katana
Grey Knights arms
