Went with xv 88 and runelord brass as my basic paints, some boltgun metal and blues in there too.
Also insta mold to the rescue. Only one of the freaking special weapons per box dosen't cut it for me.

Going for a long lost forgeworld look, seperated from the imperium for a long time. So more steampunk.

First off, I love the paint scheme. However, have you thought about putting in an accent color? Something to add a bit of interest and break up the plane, maybe a small bit of red as an ode to the Mechanicum?

Also, how did you get the 2 pieces of instamold from melding together? What material did you use to create the new bits?

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

I may add some white or something later, its a test for now.

This is one of the best instant molds I have done, Ill tell you what I did to get it so close to original.

First, I bought some legos. Yes legos. I built a brick mold with them. There are some good resin casting videos on youtube doing this, so I just used insta mold instead. Second, after heating them up, I pushed one half into the brick mold, then took the side of the arc rifle I dont mind having less detail on and pushed it laying flat into the insta mold, about halfway down, and gently pushed the sides of the mold up closer to the weapon, usually dont have to I was just paranoid. Then I immediatley run that half under cold water till it hardens, while I let the other half of the insta mold material sit in the warm water still. Once it hardens, insta mold wont even stick to itself. about a minute later I took it out of cold water, and removed the bottom half brick I had made. I then put the remaining hot insta mold into the lego brickmold, and flattened it as best I could with my finger, and pushed the other half of the mold I made previously with the gun still in it into the lego brick mold on top of the hot instamold. You get an exactly fitting together mold and there is no where for the instamold to squeeze by, forcing it to really come up and hug the details. After they cool you just add greenstuff. Then you just let it sit for 6 to 8 hours, and trim the flashing away with a sharp knife.

Its not a perfect copy, but on the table with paint you wont tell the difference. Also I dont reccomend the method unless you have a lot of small parts you dont want to just buy off ebay. I play orks, and I make tons of glyphs and rokkits and such. Dont buy instamold for one or two copies of something, its cheaper online.

Also the mold was just short of the shoulder, so I just took one of the 10 extra on the sprue and kitbashed it with my greenstuff copy.

for the cable, I may add some guitar string to go to the pack.

I've already got the instamold and the greenstuff...Legos too As an Ork player (and CSM) as well, instamold and the tentacle maker are must haves!

This, As soon as I tried out insta-mold it became my most recommended product. The lego trick is by far and large a fantastic trick (I mean who doesn't have lego somewhere?!).
True insta mold isn't always perfect, but like you said, on the table top you will not notice, and screw a company you can't even supply a kit with enough weapons for you to make the actual available loadouts..... <-- assuming this is the case I dont have any skitarri.

Also, I agree with an earlier post,I think a nice red or something to highlight would be perfect But loving the steampunk-esque style.

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

You get all of ONE of each special weapon, and you can have up to 3 per squad. theres like 6 leftover heads though.

Yeah there are tons of the non special weapons and tons of heads. I am actually going even further. I am only using the guns/backpacks to add to skaven to make some 40k skaven. I bought up a box so I could get an idea of what all the bits I would need. I was hoping for at least a couple of the specials. NOPE. Considering you get 10 guys and can have 3 of them. NOONE is going to run 1 of each special but I guess if you buy 3 boxes you can do a squad with 3 of each one. .

It does leave me with some extra skitarii bodies though. I expected more people would try kitbashing them for IG/AM.
