Painting freehand skulls
1. Using an off white, paint a circle for the top of the skull
2. Add a rectangle to the bottom for the cheek bones
3. Add a narrower rectangle shape for the upper jaw and teeth
4. Switch to black or dark brown, add an upside down V for the nose and rounded rectangles for eyes.
5. Add short vertical lines between the teeth
6. Highlight in white the top of the skull, brow and outsides of the cheek bones.

It's also easy enough to adapt the approach for various races, greenskins versions are probably easiest to do as they are less symmetrical and benefit from 4 or 5 vertical lines rather than a block to form the upper jaw. IG tend to be more stylised and square whereas marines are more squat. DE favour narrower and thinner versions.

This tutorial would really benefit from some stage by stage pictures.

It's a good tutorial though. I'll have to give it a whirl.

Thanks, good shout, Hopefully this works... I'm a bit limited on colours but this is on the side of an ork trukk, took about 4 minutes for the lot but hopefully you can get where it's heading with more time available to you! Left side top to bottom is circle, rectangle, 2nd rectangle, then right is teeth, nose and eye sockets. Last bit would be highlights.
