Bounding Ultramarine Assault Trooper

I myself have always loved the classic star wars stormtrooper and have always despaired at the lack of availability for miniature versions smaller than 1/24 scale. i thought that by now someone would of collaborated with lucasfilm (or now disney) and made some 28mm scale troopers (and maybe some rebels or scout troopers ect...) and i thought there would be a big market for them, i am the only one who wants them?

i would never expect gw to do anything like this but with the upsurge of bolt action and other warlord games i thought that maybe they would do something similar but alas, not yet. with the new movie coming out as well i thought that there would be a lot of interest in the imperial trooper and that some company or other would try to cash in but not so far by the looks of it. i bought some dreamforge stormtroopers and i intend to do some conversions or just sculpt one myself, i also have seen some small, metal clonetroopers but i am not sure if they made stormtroopers or not. dies anyone else think they should make some figures for star wars or am i by myself? any suggestions as well on making my own would be appreciated

You missed the boat, there.

Knight Models used to have a licensed range of (IIRC) 32mm Star Wars figures, which included a boxed squad of Stormtroopers. Pricey, but lovely models. Sadly now out of production.

Wizards of the Coast had a 30mm-ish collectible Star Wars miniatures game which included a number of Stormtroopers. Also now out of production.

The licence is currently rumoured to belong to FFG. They only have a board game out so far with infantry models, but there's no telling what's still to come.

28mm hard plastic Star Wars minis are the absolute top of my hobby wishlist, to the point where they would probably get prioritised over 40k, Deadzone, Infinity and Malifaux the moment they came out. Fantasy Flight Games do some as part of their Imperial Assault boardgame range, but like the rest of their Star Wars stuff they are hideously expensive per-model, and only come in one pose. There was a Star Wars miniatures game years ago that I think WotC made, but I don't think it really caught on, and the minis were monopose prepaints rather than actual kits.

At the moment, I'm making do with the Star Wars Command line of toys, which paint up nicely enough but are 54mm scale and far from the best detailed, basically being the Star Wars equivalent of Green Army Men. If you just want to paint some Star Wars and play low-model-count skirmish games, they are alright, and often available at discount.

i remember those 32mm metal ones now, sadly as you said they went out of production as you said :( . i agree with paradigm that it would be awesome and i believe it would be immensely popular among the star wars fan and modeling community. they could also do vehicles (like small walkers) or like the old 32mm speeder bike and maybe some of the new stormtroopers from the movie. just thoughts, what do you think?

Ah what I would give to have some gorgeous multi-part plastic stormies... Like Paradigm they would take precedence over even 40k for me.

If you were in the mood for some heavy converting, check out Develain's clone trooper army and try to do something like that. He has some incredible skill!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Stormtrooper packs come from FFG. I know you get 9 with the main boxset, but they aren't stupid when it comes to giving people what they want They know that gamers will want to play SWIA with just Stormtroopers.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

I believe they are coming in Wave 3/2.5...

3 monopose minis for about £10-12, going by the other releases... Pass.

sorry i have not posted in the last couple of days but real life has kept me busy. i love those conversions, are those heads sculpted or from a pre mad? awesome all the same. i agree with paradigm that 3 monopose figures for £12 is a bit much, it would also be cool if FFG made some but it appears that even with the new movie coming out it doesn't look like there will be any new figures :(

I was working on an Imperial Army converted from 40k models a while back. After seeing the new movie trailer I've got a hankering to dig them out and finish things up.

Looking good, i like the helmet!
i think i will have a go at converting a cadian into a snow trooper and maybe some regular troopers (the heads would be conversions from wargames factory stormtroopers). all the same i have hope with the new movie coming out that some one might do them

I wouldn't discount the WoTC vinyl game figures. They are still widely available second hand and usually for much less than the more collectible metal options. They also scale well (in the 28-30mm range IIRC) with other contemporary wargames miniatures. Also, being vinyl, they're incredibly easy to convert and the huge range of WoTC SW figs gives lots of figs that can be cut apart for SW bits.

Also, the figs from the "Imperial Assault" game are fairly well done, though not quite as detailed and not many poses.

Star Wars: Imperial Assault from Fantasy Flight Games is a pretty darn awesome boxed game. It has the 'Descent' styled pseudo-RPG-ish campaign, sure. - Which is great fun, by the way.

However, it also comes with the Skirmish game variant, which is very much a Skirmish level wargame, that just so happens to take place on a board. You get 3 different board set ups in the starter box, with a total of 6 missions.

Each further pack you get (like the aforementioned 3 extra stormtroopers), comes with another board set up and 2 more missions.

While, no, I wouldn't be insane enough to make a 40k scale army out of them, it is entirely viable to make a skirmish force out of the FFG models.

And, if you do want to play Imperial Assault Skirmish (which is pretty fun), the expansion/booster packs actually ARE fairly-ish priced (if you discount, or are an American), as you aren't buying 'just' the models, you're getting lots of various things to add t your games, both the main Imperial Assault campaign, and for the skirmish game.

WOTC is wizards of the coast (who own Magic the Gathering). They bought out wizkids who used to make a number of the clix style games and make pre-painted miniature lines like the D&D miniatures line.

No they didn't.

NECA bought out Wizkids, not WotC.

There's actually a number of folks doing projects based on that line over at lead Ad including this guy. http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=78110.0
They're often called WEG figures because they were designed for the "West End Games" Miniatures game and RPG. The sculpts are actually pretty good, but as you say, they are 25mm.
