Mikko's announcement over on Iron Sleet that he was going to work on orks was the motivation needed for me to finally post the orks I've been working on. I've been trying to figure out how to mash the ork kits together to produce a boy with real menace. A hulking brute with thick arms without the cartoonishly large hands.
Splicing boy hands onto nob arms and then slapping them on old metal nob bodies seems to work. I'm planning on using the more sensible boy heads to set off the larger frames. So far I've only got a few boyz and a gretchin mocked up, but there's a few more boyz, a nob, and a zzap gun in the works. Let me know if you think the arms and hands work with the bigger bodies. And any comments or criticism are appreciated.

i do like upscaling, however, i think the problem with orks is that bigger boyz will just be seen as nobz anyway.. unless you also upscale your nobz, which can be done, just takes a bit of effort

If you're happy to move outside of the GW box you could maybe take a look at the Marauders (not Orks, oh no!) from Mantic,:
http://www.manticgames.com/search.html?SearchTerm=marauder
They tend to be a chunk bigger than the GW Ork models - although all my Orky stuff is 2nd edition, not sure if they grew as the numbers went up.

Definitely. Mantic orks are about the size of gorkamorka boyz, smaller than the current type.

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome. |

@queen_annes_revenge: The plan is to use an old metal warboss as a nob with a power klaw and iron gob. As I don't have a plan to play with these miniatures I'm taking my time to see how well I can build larger orks while doing with the cartoonish proportions of the stock kits. I expect this project to take some time as I tend to fiddle with parts much longer than necessary.
@briz braz and Boggy Man: I haven't looked at any Mantic stuff. Their miniatures look good. They certainly have the smaller heads, smaller hands thing down and the boyz have more practical looking equipment.
The next step is to get the arms attached, finish the assistant/ammo grot, and figure out how to make shoota boyz.
