So, I picked up my first vyper box today as it's the necessary tax for a Windrider host. I'd written the list and opted for dual shuriken cannons. Only to find that the option doesn't exist in the box. In fact, it's not even close to existing. So, in a fit of anger and rage, I set about with scalpel and clippers and have come up with this.

Please let me know what you think. I want to do something with the mounting hole at the bottom, but I don't know what.

That sucks to know, that the option doesnt exist in the box. I think its because its an older kit, most of the newer kits are more generous with options.

Overall yours looks great though.

Looks fine. I recently worked up some old jetbikes, as I wasn’t going to by the GW conversion packs when I had a ton of cannons kicking around. I’ve get a viper on my bench that I’ve paused for the moment. In theory my FLGS should have a box of the new jetbikes waiting for me next time I’m up there, and I wanted to see how well the new under bike cannon from that kit would work. If not, I suspect I’m going to run something similar to what you’ve got here. Could we get a pic from under the chin? Or without the canopy if that’s not glued down? Just to get a good look at the details. Thanks.

Yes of course, I'll take a picture tomorrow morning and put it up here. There was a lot of hacking and cutting, it's not the prettiest looking at it under the shell, but I'll happily shown you what I've done and how.

I contemplated using the new shuriken cannon from the bikes too. I think it would've been significantly easier. But it wouldn't have filled the gap that the catapults would've left behind and they're a little different to the cannons you get on the turret. I was keen for them to match as much as possible.

They do it so that you HAVE to buy multiple DIFFERENT boxes in order to get that ONE model you want. It's called marketing.

The wave serpent comes with a shurken cannon (but it won't fit a vyper).

Due to the design aspects of the vyper, it was assumed people would just use the metal add-on shrieker cannon from the old jetbike kits (it fits) due to them using the SAME mount. Of course, when they got around to redoing those old bikes, they once again CHANGED the mounting.

Then they went and changed that mount for the falcon and every other tank afterwards (the fire prism was built upon that falcon hull, etc).

Its an old kit.

Plain and simple.

OK, as per request, I've taken some pictures with the shell off so you can see the rather coarse kit bash that is. A lot of it can't be seen with the shell on. Trying to work out what to do with the little ring that's on the bottom that's meant for mounting it in the turret. It was a pain.

Older kits don't always have all the options from the newer codex for one reason. Another reason is that they just never include all the options in one kit. The option is in other kits though, so go buy those! Seriously. IG is full of it. We're not provided with many of the weapon options (especially in the older codex), the most notable is shotguns. We don't even get all the units in our codex. Have you ever seen GW release a IG rough rider? I sure haven't! I just make my own

They often don't include all the options in a kit just because there isn't room on the sprue. For instance, a Space Marine Tactical Squad kit with all the heavy weapon, special weapon, pistol and close combat options would be ludicrous considering how much plastic is on the sprue already!

Back when that kit was sculpted (almost 20 years ago!) they couldn't fit much on the sprue at all since the technology wasn't quite there yet.
