Hi,

I have painted up my first squad of Necrons and decided to start with a squad of Immortals.
I decided to paint the weapon frames a dark green instead of the GW stock pic method which appears to be charcoal black.
I'm kind of stuck in this middle ground where I don't know if iv'e made the right decision.
I'm not sure if I should just leave the Immortals as is and paint the additional x5 I have in the same way or if I should paint over the weapons charcoal black and highlight all over again and if I do keep the dark green should I paint all my necron warriors in the same way or just leave the immortals looking a bit different?

For some reason painting the dark surfaces on the larger units (Triarch stalker, Doom scythe, canoptek spyder etc etc) using the dark green method just doesn't seem right.

Any thoughts?

I really like the green guns, much better than a standard black.

Maybe try:

- Base coat with your current dark green (Caliban green?)
- heavy highlight (Warpstone green)
- Black wash
- then fine highlight with a light green (Moot green?)
- Finally put a green glaze (Waywatcher Green)

That should give it more depth and hopefully you will be more happy with the final product.

I think it's a good idea. Just intensify edge highlights

Thanks for the advice guys.
I actually use mostly Vallejo game colour and Secret Weapons washes, with the exception of GW moot green.

The original method for the weapon frames was
Base coat - Heavy Green
Wash - Blue black
Dry brush edge highlight - sick green
Apply matt varnish

I gave it a shot and tried to darken the green with a wash of Secrect weapon's Heavy body black,
then reapplied the sick green highlight and decided to apply an extreme highlight of GW moot green where light might reflect from the glowing green areas on the weapons.
I'm a bit apprehensive about going to town on them with further moot green highlights, thinking I might save that for larger units.
Instead of capping it with matt varnish I chose this time to apply a coat of satin varnish.

I'm a bit happier with the results but do you think I should go further with the edge highlights?

Definitely go further with it.

The Necron green is awesome!

Im no pro painter but i like to 50/50 mix my light and dark green the do a thick edge highlight then a final highlight with my light green across the middle of that finish it with a GW green glaze to blend it. Id also suggest throwing a wash across the silver it seems flaky but that could be the camera.

It's definitely the camera, just using my phone with the flash off and a desk lamp to the side. Can't find the charger for my good camera

I tested expanding on the moot green highlights on one of the unit's weapons, I like the look but I think I've figured out what's giving me an off feeling.

I'm happy with the look of the base coat once it's darkened by the wash but once iv'e applied the highlights I feel a bit "meh" about it.
I think It's because I learnt to paint with SM/CSM figures and nutted out a great method for highlights by only dry-brushing, I think I may have to scrap the dry-brushing for necrons (bar necron compound on the bodies).

In this case the dry-brushed highlights are spreading a faint layer of green pigments over the broader surface and taking away the darker surface tone that I'd prefer.
I'll give solid line highlights a shot instead.
