Hi all,
Been a long time since I posted, and I don't expect this to receive much attention, but I thought I'd share my attempt at the new Blood Angels Tactical Squad kit, equipped with all the flamery goodness that makes Salamanders players turn... green, with envy.
Painted to gaming standard, I have tried my best with the photography and the camera within my budget, so if you have any criticisms, please don't make it about the photo quality. I'd appreciate any comments about the painting though, as I realise I'm far from the best on this site and would like to try and improve my painting skills so any advice is welcome.
So without further ado, enjoy!

Honestly. Looks a lot like my own...love it. Nothing to criticize paint wise here for me. I like your style. I like that it isn't all airbrushing like most painted models are turning. I just overall love it. Well done.

I like it.

Only thing is, the marines are too fancy, it makes sternguard and vanguard look a lot less special. Still awesome though,

Dude, that is the BA Tactical Squad now. Blinged out like a boss. The kit comes this way.

Love the dual hand flamers. Not a fan of the flames on the tabard, though, but that isn't much of a gripe, just my being a purist.

Those look great, although the gun barrels need to be drilled, otherwise they will all backfire in their faces!

Thanks everyone, so nice to have positive feedback on my models, though I take on board the fact that flames on robes are not to everyone's liking.

@Demigod, I understand your gripe about the gun barrels, but life is too short and drilling them is a good way to go ruining your guns if you mess it up, which I would undoubtedly do if I attempted it.

I'll post some photos of my Sternguard squad here soon, I'll have them up by the end of the week so keep watching. It'll be interesting to see which squad you all reckon to be the most blinged out, probably the tacticals as the sternguard only consist of about five models from the kit. The other five are from the old combat squad, converted up with a few bits and bobs. Pics coming soon...

With a pin vise drill and X-Acto, it is not that hard to do the barrels. I have done hundreds of them and only messed up a few in all that time.

Great paint work, love the look of em!

Only thing that I don't like about them is the bases, just looks like some sand stuck down... I personally prefer a bit of paint slapped on there too!

Those look really great man! Personally I really like the flamey loincloth, I don't feel like the cloth areas usually get much attention beyond just being painted beige with shadows. Have you thought about doing the sergeants shoulderguards in black? I've always thought that particular detail in the book made em stand out.

Also, as above, don't be afraid to try out the pinvice. I use a dremel personally because I can't stand doing anything that isn't super quick, but a pinvice actually does give you plenty of control to go fairly slow and make sure your gunbarrels are nice and even.

Great job though man, they look really good. Did you do anything particular to get that nice deep shade of red? It looks very nice and even.

THey look good from my house!

They look better than my paint jobs. I will say that I agree the Sgt should have black shoulder pads if trying to keep to fluff somewhat and like mentioned should identify him better on table top..

One thing that i will say is that with how nice you painted the models that the base treatment would really add to the figures above the sand or grass that is down on it. Now i cant say much cause i do the same thing but on figures that i have done that have more to the bases it really can make the figures "pop" and look even better than just a single layer of flock/sand. Even putting a few tufts of grass by army painter will make them figures shine even more with little effort and time on what you got there in my opinion. .

I still need to get a small hand drill for models lol. I use dremmel as well and it works for things i do but i would not use it to drill out gun barrels as i am sure i would screw them up. I have used them for some napoleonic british command to drill out hands for banner poles... and i was sweating a lot while doing it

I hope this feedback helps i think the figures are really nice, just wanting to give some ideas and feedback for ya

Thanks everyone - paint job was very, very simple. Start from black and bassist with khorne red, then layer with evil suns scarlet. For the sergeant I washed him with carroburg crimson to make the chest armour stand out. I'll see what I can do about barrels, and as for the bases I find it better to not lavish them with detail - draws attention away from the model, but I might go over them at some later date. Was a little surprised at how much feedback these guys got, given I painted them up within a week in preparation for a weekend match.
I'll also have a think about the sergeant's pads - I do normally do black shoulder pads, and I can't remember why I didn't here.

Finally Friday, which means more pictures. These are from my sternguard squad, half of which are converted, the other half are more or less from the box. Controversially, I've equipped all of them with stormbolters. (cue screams) This was purely an aesthetic choice, as I saved their boltguns for the tactical squad (see above). Also, if I choose to use them as stormbolters they can fire twice AND assault, and given how devastating the blood angels assaults can be now, I thought that might be just worth it. Plus, the rate of fire these guys can put out rivals that of a devastator squad on steroids. Add in a librarian with prescience and that's gonna hurt. A lot. I'd appreciate any thoughts and monumental load-out rants that you may have.
Cheers!

Sternguard look good too man. You know, normally I always paint the backpacks to match the armor, but I have to admit seeing them in black makes me think they'd be faster, simpler, and still look good as they make the color on the rest of the model stand out more. They almost sort of look like a nice high contrast backdrop that emphasizes the color around the shoulders and heads. Kinda diggin that honestly.

Great job on everything man, and I actually really like all the stormbolters, they look cool imo.

This is what i thought too when i saw the new models. at this point, by adding more "details" they are actually making everything more generic and samey. mind=blown.

Hi all, thanks so much for all the positive feedback - I do have more models to post but I think if I did so on this thread I'd be digressing, so I've started up a new one to showcase my characters - I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts and opinions on them as I add them to the thread.
