Hey Dakka,

I've had a bit of an Iron Warriors bug biting at my brain since i saw all the stuff KrautScientist has been doing, but can't quite afford to invest in a new 30k army. So i picked up a Relic Contemptor (which was in pretty bad condition) and salvaged it to make Baza'rus the Unyielding. the model I got was super glued in a pretty awkward running pose and caked with paint, but with a little greenstuff and bits, I'm pretty proud of what I came out with:

And what kind of Iron Warrior would he be if he wasn't ripping apart one of Dorn's Banana Marines

I whipped up some quick fluff for him too:

Baza’rus awoke, his body feeling numb and cold. The wounds he had suffered had been devastating, and he remembered feeling his life slip from his broken body.

“Am I alive?” He asked, but his voice seemed grating and distant – had his mouth even moved?

“Better,” said a voice from beyond his vision “you’re a Dreadnought”

He couldn’t feel his limbs, and he knew his body had been replaced by his new metal sarcophagus. He was gone; a faint soul in a titanic engine of war. His life would be long periods of semi-conscious stasis-sleep interspersed with war and near-mindless violence. Baza’rus was close to crying, but he knew he had no eyes.

Haha I know marines don't cry, but I always liked to imagine that becoming a Dreadnought was something so traumatizing and horrible that it was as close to fear as a marine could experience.

Open to any C&C, cause I may end up itching my new love for Iron Warriors again.

Thanks Dakka, Cheers,
Jpog

Looks good. One tip I can recommend is to completely drench the thing in a dark brown (burnt umber + a bit of burnt sienna) oil wash, or agrax earthshade, and wipe away the excess on the flat areas/edges. Then sponge mithril silver on the edges, recreating thin scratches on the flat areas with a small brush. This will grime up the model significantly and make it look weathered and down-to-earth, as right now it looks a bit flat. Also drybrush black around vents/exhaust pipes. The base looks a bit unfinshed: you might want to drybrush an off-white, and wash with a greyish brown. Add small clumps of static grass for effect.

Finally, the IF: wash liberally with agrax (if you want it to be dirty) or with cassandora yellow (if you want it to be clean).

As it is, it is a good start.

Thanks, the agrax on everything really helps, and I agree that the base is pretty bland. As for the silver, is dry brushing similar sponging? Haha I'm just wondering how to get that wear without over doing it.

Drybrushing will give a more streaky, scratched look. Sponging (or stippling for that matter) will give a chipped/dented/scarred look. If you choose to drybrush, be careful, because it is very easy to overdo it and end up with unrealistically long thick lines rather than short hairline scratches. Personally I would stipple/sponge on the edges with mithril silver. And then I would stipple/sponge a dark brown (mournfang+black 50/50) on the hazard stripes. Afterwards, I would outline the bottom of the brown patches with a light yellow or grey, depending on where they are on the hazard stripes. To stipple, take a worn out sparse, stiff brush, work in some paint to the bristles, remove most of it, and dab randomly on the edges, etc (not too hard or you might end up with large circular blotches).

And don't be afraid to add photos at various stages of completion, including after washes/mid stippling, etc. in order for us to help if you need advice.

Missing the hazard stripes, hit it with a wash of earthshade and nuln oil. Drybrush boltgun heavily. Hit it with oil again. Highlight with boltgun metal and then a finer highlight of the next highest. Only the top corners hit with the bright silver color.

On the stripes, do them in the base yellow, and do the black. I find a small ruler works well. I usually draw the lines in pencil first. Then add grey lines along the edges of the black, and a lighter yellow on the edges of the yellow.

Infantrymen do not die, they go to heaven and regroup.
