Thought I'd use this commander as a test model and it turned out better than I thought for my first model!

Very clean brush-work for a beginner, very nice. Could do with a wash to bring out the lines and make it pop a bit more.

Dude...
Texting and driving is bad enough, but posting to dakka?!
I kid, he must be parked somewhere and bored.
Cool looking mini though dude. A few tips though for the next one.
You can see on the edges of the embellishments, like for example on the left pad, slight mishaps. Small areas where the paint has run down onto the edge of raised bits. If you zoom in on the pic you can see what I mean. There are two ways to fix this. One way is to be very diligent with your brush and make sure you paint those edges. A prime example is marine helmets, the wide band across the top, that small vertical edge, if painted poorly it shows from a mile away. Tons of my dudes have this problem, and another way I've found to counter it is to not paint them. Lol. Like how you did with the eagle heads on the pack there, treat those raised edges like recceses.
Another thing I will mention is brush loading. I can see small brush strokes on his cloak and most of the time this comes from painting with too thick paint. If you have paint pots you can load your brush easily using this method.
1: Start with fresh clean water, not too cold but not warm either. Keep a separate water pot for cleaning your brush too.
2: Touch your brush very lightly to the paint drawing up only a small amount.
3: Wipe this off on your pallette, I use a bit of cardboard because I don't like how the water sits on plastic.
4: Now take a small amount of water into your brush from your clean mix water and mix it with your little paint blob. A few strokes should do. The paint should look like milk, not quite so thick, but not watery.
5: Paint just like you were!
I'm no pro, my pics prove that, lol. But I have learned a few things that work, and most of it I learned second hand from actual painting guides. Most of my painting advice is merely my paraphrasing said guides, but hey... Oh well. Try it out, it works.

Thanks for the compliments and advice! And as to the first reply, I did wash it. Null oil on blue and silver agrax earthshade for the parchment and skulls and a red wash for the red parts

Nicely done. A solid tabletop paintjob, cleanly painted. If that's your first model, you're well on your way!

Did you paint it in your car too?!?!
I am impressed, either way, for a first mini.
