SELECTED: DENTRICA I OF M
ENGAGE NEURAL CONGRESS – WIRELESS AUTOSHUNT ACQUIRED
UPLOADING… + THE COHORT MECHANICUS FORMATION +

Recently rejoining the 40K hobby, I was right on time for the release of the Adeptus Mechanicus army. As a result, I've acquired the codexes (limited and standard), hardback novels, ebooks, etc... I've even had offers on helping me to get the T-Shirt. When the 'GW Web Exclusive Rules Bundle' arrived, how could I not get it? Verification of 'Hard Data' ?

Also, I was not sure if it was permitted to post the rules online so I have not up until now.

With the recent fervor over 'web exclusive' formations and the discussing of their rules, I am presuming it would be permitted to do so now. If it is not allowed, I would understand if the Moderators remove it. If it is not allowed, I extend my apologies.

As I mentioned, I am 'new' to the current 7th Edition of the game. I am relearning as I am building my new army. I don't expect to play a large enough game in points as this formation requires, not to mention enjoying the special rules.

Regarding all of the 'exclusive formations' becoming available (Exalted House of House Terryn, Cohort Mechanicus, and now the Skyhammer Annihilation Force), it would be my opinion they would be the most fun against other 'exclusive formations'. That's my two cogs worth...

So, for your review and discussion, I present...

+++ COHORT MECHANICUS +++

FORMATION:

1 Tech-Priests Dominus
1 unit of Fulgurite Electro-Priests
1 unit of Corpuscarii Electro-Priests
1 unit of Kataphron Breachers
1 unit of Kataphron Destroyers
2 units of Kastelan Robots & Datasmiths
1 unit of Skitarii Vanguard
1 unit of Skitarii Rangers
1 unit of Sicarian Ruststalkers
1 unit of Sicarian Infiltrators
2 Onager Dunecrawlers
1 unit of Sydonian Dragoons or Ironstrider Ballistarii

RESTRICTIONS:

A Cohort Mechanicus must include either 3 Sydonian Dragoons or 3 Ironstrider Ballistarii

SPECIAL RULES:

Alpha-Primus: If this Formation's Tech-Priest Dominus is your Warlord, you can generate his Warlord Trait from the Warlord Trait table in either Codex: Skitarii or Codex: Cult Mechanicus.

The Primus Canticle: All units in a Cohort Mechanicus have the Canticle of the Omnissiah special rule (see Codex: Cult Mechancus), even though they do not have the Cult Mechanicus Faction. In addition, if your army contains a Cohort Mechanicus, you can use the following Canticle of the Omnissiah in addition to those listed in Codex: Cult Mechanicus. This Canticle can never be used more than once in the same battle.

BLESSING OF BINHARIC DELIVERANCE
The unalloyed version of this famous blessing carries great power. It siphons a fraction of the Motive Force from those faithful nearby and releases it in the form of crackling electrogheists that intercept incoming shots, delivering the Omnissiah's chosen from harm.

Units / Effect
1-3 = All friendly models with the Canticles of the Omnissiah special rule have a 6+ Invulnerable save
4-7 = All friendly models with the Canticles of the Omnissiah special rule have a 5+ Invulnerable save
8 + = All friendly models with the Canticles of the Omnissiah special rule have a 4+ Invulnerable save

The Primus Imperative: All units in a Cohort Mechanicus have the Doctrina Imperatives special rule (see Codex: Skitarii), even though they do not have the Skitarii Faction.
In addition, if your army contains a Cohort Mechanicus, you can use the following Doctrina Imperative in addition to those listed in Codex: Skitarii. This Imperative can never be used more than once on the same battle.

EXECUTIONER EXTREMIS (PRIMUS)
The proscribed imperative known as Executioner Exremis drives the faithful to the absolute peak of their potential. Rumours exist that it causes subtle but irreparable damage to brain stems and circuit nests in the process, but discerning Tech-Priests judge the sacrifice worthwhile.

Until the start of your next turn, all friendly models with the Doctrina Imperatives special rule add 3 to both their Ballistic Skill and Weapon Skill characteristics.

+++ END OF DATASHEET +++

Rashbold

I don't think I'll ever get GWs formation rules writing. This is all cool, pretty strong, but not crazy, and you basically build your whole army around it.

Compare and contrast to the much stronger "lol free upgrades and canticles for everyone" formation which is THE SAME STUFF but infinitely stronger...and I don't get it.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Yes, even as much as it is 'exclusive' (special rules) it does have its limitations (higher points, limited number of each unit) which seems fair.

I was surprised when comparing the Cohort Mechanicus to the War Convocation. I wonder if GW mixed the forms up for release?

At least I don't feel short-changed as I was intent on buying all of these models at some point. I just have them sooner.

Gathering the Informations.

That is nice.

Wish I had known it was coming as instead of doing what I did, I would have waited for this.

Yes, my Financial-servitor practically burned out and quit on me after I bought this.

I had been purchasing a few Skitarii/Cult units prior to this being released, so this was slightly redundant in models. As I mentioned, I would have bought more eventually, this just cemented my decision a bit sooner.

Personally, I think the WD #69 War Convocation may see more play than this one. If my FLGS has a fun gathering, and everyone is agreeable, I can take it for a run.

Giving the Cult units doctrines are good

The only downside is that this formation pays full points for everything, expensive formation pointswise

1960 points minimum, with 5 man ranger and vanguard squads, and 3 dragoons. so 2 arc rifles to split up for the vanguard/rangers, and 10 points for something else. Not nearly as good as the white dwarf one, but looks like fun. Probably never run it, as it would mean throwing money away on those god awful priests.

Yes, sharing the Canticles and Doctrines seems like a fluffy way to unite both Cult & Skitarii factions.

2000 points would probably be the best I could hope for to play in a friendly game. The nice thing is, as I build each unit, it is practically an escalation through each of the Cult/Skitarii formations. It is just a question of which units to pull in for a particular force. It will be fun working my way up the Adeptus Mechanicus ladder.

1960 points minimum. Heh. So you'll have a whole bunch of naked units running around to boot, compensated for with a Doctrina that gives +3 BS/WS and 4++ invul... Good strategy will reduce the need for your both +3 BS/WS. So really, you get the 4++ invul from it. Mmmh, not exactly a fan - too bad the formation wasn't smaller.

...adding to that, the possible forthcoming irony. As I build my units with a few options for 500 point games and larger, I will (hopefully) increase my comfort and skill levels with the growing army I build and play with. This will thereby negate my desire to run 'a whole bunch of naked units' around the table.

Hah! Hoist by my own petard-cog!

Well, all roads lead to 'Mars'... it will be fun to see what happens along the way.

I still think it would be interesting to see these different 'exclusive' formations square off. It may be a short squaring off, but it would still be interesting.

Thanks for all of your comments so far.

Thank you for posting this information. I play only Mechanicum and I already have all of the models needed for the formation, just not the rules that come with the bundle.

I added you as a friend and +1'd your post for being so helpful, thanks again!
