So I am a long time eldar player that randomly got inspired to work on some marines. I could never play them before because I like to think up my own back stories and I could not find a color scheme or backstory that I didn't feel looked too much like one of the existing GW chapters. That said there are so many chapters mine still has ended up resembling some in look and theme including the old astral claws and fire hawks. I chose orange because it seems so uncommon and I think it will help diversify the table top aka i'm being kind of a hipster about my chapter design.

Here is the Bolter and Chainsword mock up and I do actually have some tactical marines in the beginning paint stages as well as some transfers I made for their chapter symbol. I will try to post pictures but the symbol is basically the profile of a raven head with fire coming off the back

I have added raven imagery to the iconography of this chapter for a couple reasons. I have a friend I garage hammer with that plays ravenguard so for narrative and additional tactical insight the chapter is a successor chapter to the raven guard and will use their chapter tactics despite being summarily less powerful than the rest of the chapter tactics. This also allows me to use bird type bits to distance the models from the Halloween or tiger motifs that it might get associated with. For example wings, beaked helmets etc.

I am still struggling with the name so if you like one of these more than the others let me know.

Most the names dont really roll of the tongue that well

But I do like Fire Raptors Though named off a gunship already,

As per below Shadowfire sounds jumbly.

I'm really digging the 'shadowfire' idea, though it sounds a bit jumbly and busy with paired with another word. Maybe something short and concise after shadowfire? Or even an adjective before it?

Scheme looks really cool too, the colors have enough stark contrast but does not look like it will get mottled when painted on.

Yeah I thought about Fire Raptors and am still considering it. Really it's just the FW ship keeping me from using it, though I still might. I used the raven/crow because a friend I play with plays Ravenguard and they are a successor chapter. I could change it though
I agree the names don't roll off great maybe Shadowfire Phoenixes.

Thanks a lot clamclaw I think I am pretty set on the Shadowfire thing too but you're right i've got to figure out some name that is less clumsy. the only other thoughts I've had so far are;

Oooo, I like the last one. Ebon Pheonix sounds cool, though the full title sounds a lot like the Harry Potter book 'Order of the Pheonix" Unless that's what you were going for.

Ha! that's what I get for not reading the Harry Potter series. Yeah if I do Ebon Phoenix I will probably just cut out the Order part to keep it short.
