What better way to spend Saturday morning than to paint up the free model that came in WD75?

Here is the Stormcast Eternal. I absolutely love the sculpt and the model -- mold lines were teenie tiny, barely even visible. It was a pretty quick job; I drybrushed most of the metallics instead of layering them to speed it up. The shade of gold I produced by mixing gold and silver, as the magazine depicts a brighter shade (the one that's coming out next week), and I didn't have anything close, even from other vendors.

@spartiatis, vyxen - I've had the model since Thursday, but I didn't really do much with it til this morning because work got pretty crazy. It just took the morning to do -- the models go really quick if you're drybrushing instead of layering/blending/glazing the highlights.

I only layered the final edge highlight for the gold; the rest of the gold was all washes and drybrush . And really, the model is exceedingly gold, LOL.

Looks great. Did you use those new GW gold paints?

No, but only because they're not available yet Looking at the magazine cover, the top layer is a brighter, less yellowy color, so I mixed about 50/50 Auric Gold and Runefang Steel, and then finished off with an edge highlight of Runefang.

Screamer Pink, Emperor's Children, Druchi Violet, and Ungor Flesh is what I did. I think they used Cadian at the end, but they're pretty close, since you only use a tiny bit.

But I cheated a little to speed it up. For those handles to look good, it's really important that all the raised edges have the same thickness of paint lines (like, if one raised ridge is fatter than another, it looks horrible, especially up close or photographed), and this handle had double-up lines in some areas (where two ridges are right beside each other). Normally, I'd really carefully pick out each one and go back and correct each one. It can be pretty time consuming.

Since I wanted to do a quick model, I put down the base coat, then, with very little unthinned paint on the brush dragged the brush perpendicular to all the ridges (the same idea as a drybrush). Of course, it's not perfect, and it's unavoidably messy; it actually looks pretty bad right after. I touched up the worst offenders with the darker Screamer pink, then used Druchi violet *liberally* on the handle, and let it dry on an angle where it would settle down in all the crevices. When it all dried up, I went back with the Emperor's children, picked out the tops with a fine brush, and then gave each one the tiniest stroke of ungor flesh.

It's not a perfect handle, but it's pretty decent, and excluding the drying time for the wash, it only takes a few minutes.

In the Vancouver area, every store including Games Worksop sold their non-subscription copies the instant they got put on the shelf. I was going to buy a second one and just give the magazine away, but I couldn't even get that. It's even sold out online.

I think many FLGS have taken lists and will get more magazines, but I doubt before AoS arrives.

Ah, silly me Didn't notice the release date on those. I'm not really into age of Sigmar or GW paints though - but I'm actually curious about those golds, their metallics are pretty nice.
