Always wanted to do a Heldrake,

I don't think many people like them but I've always wanted to have a go at one, my friend at KR sold me one they'd used to cut their template. Need to fix the one of the back spines at some point but I'm out of glue.

I've had 2 evenings to work on him so far.

First bit of painting didn't go too well, the yellow I had was just too translucent and ended up making the thing look orange and not defined or at all "fiery" and a bit rubbish looking really

Dug around my paints and found a much better yellow so brightened up the yellow on the wings and went back with a deeper red around the edges of the plates.

Thought it looked alright so started painting the raised plate edges black which is a nice stark contrast I thought. Half way there now.

Not sure what colour I'll do the head and engines, maybe a purple-pink glow?

Perhaps a metallic colour, leadbelcher then highlight with runefang steel? Might add a nice contrast with the fire but not too much it looks odd. The runefang should brighten it up.

I think a plasma gun-esque scheme would look good in the mouth piece?

I think it looks absolutely fantastic though how you've done the orange/yellow pattern.

The steel metal head is a good idea. I will go with that. I'd like to try and do a beaten metal look but can't think how to pull it off.

Maybe some kind of heat damage on the steel like when you get a metal too hot and it purples a bit?

You could also go with a copper/petina look to give it a blueish/purple to the metal. Might be more time consuming but I think it would look very nice if pulled off.

The black edges look great against the fiery colours.

Yellow is not a strong colour. It has no covering power. Paint white first, then yellow on top, if you want strong yellows.

That's perfect!

If I do a bit of copper colour and then dry some salt over it, then paint steel over that and dissolve the salt the copper will hopefully show through.

Building up some purple/blue ink ontop after that to get the stain maybe.
